Introduction

Narrator: In light of the current Bulli Bai App case, here is a special report on the
recurring Cyber Bullying cases across the country. A year after "Sulli Deals," an
'auction' of vocal Muslim women on social media, another app named Bulli Bai was
recently launched on Github portal. It has misused photographs and targeted women
from the Muslim community who found themselves listed for ‘auction’.

The targets include women who are vocal on burning political and social issues,
spanning age groups. Prominent journalists, activists and lawyers were among those
listed for 'auction' in the disgustful app.

An 18 year old girl from Uttarakhand and a 21 year old boy from Bengaluru were
arrested in the Bulli Bai case. If rightful measures were taken against the Sulli Deals
case, the women of this case would not have been subjected to such defamation.

Pointers:

1. Such incidents are common these days but this one has particularly threatened
us as we all put up our pictures on social media.
2. Moreover, the fact that these malpractices are targeting a particular section of
society, isolates us to a greater extent.
3. When we came to know about this case, we suddenly felt that out of those
many pictures, one could be ours as well.
4. As we are an all-women family, this has triggered a feeling of fear amongst us.

Narrator: While the Bulli Bai app has taken a legal course, there is much more yet to
be revealed. Such incidents imply how unsafe women regardless of their religion are
on the internet these days.

To uncover more such incidents, we decided to showcase some real life experiences
from within the team, wherein harassers have used this medium for their illegal gains.

Ye 2019 ki baat hai. Ek baar mujhe facebook notification aaya ki 13 strangers ne meri
friend request accept kari hai jabki mene wo requests bheji hi nahi thi. Maine un sabko
unfriend kar diya. Initially I thought ki Facebook mein koi glitch hoga but within a
week my inbox was bombarded with inappropriate pictures and messages like “Raat
ka kitna leti ho?”, “Ghante ke hisaab se karna hai”. Soon I realized that my account
has been hacked and somebody was actively misusing it. I felt very exposed because
mere facebook pe mere aur meri family ke pictures the. It was a very difficult time for
me and so I decided to share this with my mother. Aise situation se bhaagne ya usko
avoid karne se galat log jeet jaate hai. I reported my account and maine apne saare
relatives and friends ko bhi bola mere account ko report karne ko. After that I filed a
complaint with the police jiske baad mera account delete karwa diya gya. However the
police couldn’t find the culprit. Even though that bold move of filing a complaint and
taking action made me feel secure and empowered but aisi situation bahut common
hai and inse calmly deal karna har insaan ko aana chahiye.

I received a message from the insta account of an old school classmate asking whether
I had posted my pictures on any adult website. Maine aisa kabhi kuch nahi kiya tha so
I panicked and asked her what it was about. She said that tumhari nude picture and
video online posted hai and shared a link with me. Woh khul nahi rahi thi toh She told
me I will have to log in to view. I was panicking and scared, and was definitely not in
my senses so I followed the link which asked for Facebook login ID and password. I
entered my husband's ID and Password to log in. I was still unable to find any such
picture or video. I told her on Instagram text that it wasn’t working and asked her for a
screenshot. She then said, “I was just kidding”. It was not funny. I was extremely
disturbed and this caused me severe anxiety. I like to think her account has been
hacked, I haven't been able to contact her on call. Though I’ve still filed a complaint
with the cyber cell.

Ek din achanak se mujhe mere phone aur Whatsapp pe abusive messages aane lage.
Call uthaate hi mujhe abuse karne lagte the and I was threatened by many people
throughout the day. Mene darrke apna phone switch off kar diya. Mujhe samajh hi
nahi aa raha tha ki mere saath kya ho raha hai. Phir mujhe mere dost se pata chala ki
kisi ne mere naam se ek fake account banaya hai jispe mera personal number bhi daala
hua hai. There were morphed pictures and videos of girls posted on that account jisme
ek politician ki daughter ke bhi pictures the.
I filed a cyber complaint and after one month we found the real culprit. It was a group
of people whom I once stopped from bullying someone. Kuchh samjhne ki jagah
unhone mujhe hi apna next target bana liya.
Sameeksha

In April 2018 I had ended a relationship and soon after he started bullying me. He
started sharing my personal details and contact numbers with all of his friends aur
mujhe dhamki milne lagi ki meri photoshopped pictures publicly upload kardi jayengi
if I didn’t talk to him. Kayi baar wo photos upload karke delete kar deta jisse I felt
very vulnerable. His behaviour started to scare me as he even reached out to my
family members on Facebook. Mujhe har samay lagta tha ki koi mujhpe nazar rakhe
hue hai. Ek din mein lagbhag 200 se 250 calls aur vulgar messages aate the aur yahan
tak ki mera e-mail ID bhi nahi chhoda tha. Mai alag alag social media accounts block
karte karte thakk gayi thi. It went on for like 3-4 months when I didn’t know how to
share this with anyone. But finally I reached out to his family or tb jaakar use ek dar
ka ehsaas hua jiske baad usne mujhe pareshan karna band kiya.

Conclusion Narrator:

If you haven’t experienced anything like this, Congratulations, you are privileged!
However, there are chances that many of you might have encountered cyberbullying
in one or the other way. While one cannot avoid being trapped in such cases, here are
some guidelines to be followed when you find yourself in such a situation.

1. Do not click on suspicious links or attachments and never respond to

unsolicited emails, messages or phone calls asking for your personal
information.
2. Do not download remote access apps, as fraudsters will get access to all your
device’s information.
3. Create unique passwords for your apps and online accounts. Make sure to reset
them at regular intervals.
4. Do not share your 20-digit SIM Number with anyone.
5. Keep a regular check of your bank statement and report any irregularities
immediately.

1. Texting, shot from the back

2. Closing laptop, complete darkness
3. Stops writing, looks pensively out the window/ puts head down
4. Walking outdoors
Ever since the boom of social media, we’ve seen a lot of positive and negative
outcomes across social and cultural domains. As we have connected to this bulletin
using the same medium ,I hope we all are well aware about the positive aspect of it.
We have tried to show the disadvantages prevalent in our society with real life
examples faced by our group members in the past, wherein harassers have used this
medium directly or indirectly.
We will begin our bulletin expecting a sense of social sensitivity and an emotional
appeal from our viewers as the majority of us have faced it at some moment or the
other in our lifespan. Isn’t it ?

Sushmita

When I was in 12th one day an incident happened. Suddenly one day from my
Facebook account some vulgar messages were sent to all my friends including boys
and girls both. They all panicked but I myself was not aware about the whole incident
at that time. Then my friend told me what was really going on. After that, I posted a
public apology then things got normal. but when the whole incident happened it
completely scared me and from that time I stopped using social accounts.
