WEEK 7

The title of this video is ‘Why you should rethink posting photos of your children on social media

‘ and the duration is 4:46 minutes. The resourcer is Jeff Rossen Reports which is a reporter who shares

information about digital kidnapping cases. To summarize the video, it explains that posting pictures

of your own children on social media could put them at risk of ‘digital kidnapping’. It was reported

that there have been incidents of online predators stealing photos of children and claiming they

were their own, posting their photos to the porn sites and even tracking down where the child goes

to school, their favorite games and so on. In these videos, TODAY will also show how to protect

ourselves and our family from predators.

The knowledge that we gained from watching this video is where through this video we

defined and learned about digital kidnapping which is something risky that could happen to a

family if parents post their children’s life online either on Facebook or Instagram in public. It can

be described that digital kidnapping could happen in any way such as the stranger who stole a

kid’s picture from Facebook and claimed it as his daughter, or the case where a child’s photo was

tagged on a porn site. For example, a parent in the video, was reported that they always post their

children pictures and videos on their social media where they thought it was general and won't

cause any problem. Through the investigation of Jesse Weinberger of the parents Facebook page,

it was said that she could identify all the details about their kids. So we identified that all of these

could put our family in danger, especially for children so this video taught us on how to protect

our family to secure our social media account like setting your account to private and post to

friends only where by doing this, our family will be safe from predators known as the digital

kidnapper.
Watching the video also made us get a bit of a statement where it explained how to protect

our family on social media. It's a simple setting to protect our family life, on Instagram changes

the privacy setting and makes profile private. Next is on Facebook, click on settings and privacy

then change from public to friend zone. Those photos on Facebook make sure to categorize friend

lists in terms of safety and make separate groups for those who are trusted the most and when

posting kid photos only share with them. Strictly speaking, remember the hidden location of kids'

photos. It’s simple settings, go to phone settings, make sure the camera section and location

function is off. Also never put children’s photos as profile or cover photo to those that are always

public. This way it helps to protect our personal information and people cannot use that information

to do bad things. To summarize our understanding through the video, it tells that when parents

share about their children’s lives on social media it can threaten the safety of their children and

can result in the digital crime of kidnapping for examples, stranger stole children photos from

social media and claimed it as their kids and there’s a case where children photos has been tagged

on a porn site . Parents are not aware that when they upload pictures or even any activity of their

children, it makes it easier for others to access all the information even if the parents did not share

any information when uploading their children’s lives. In the investigation, Jesse Weinberger is

against Michelline’s family who always make general stories and share about their children;s lives

on social media. Jesse Weinberger can access all personal information of Michelline’s Family from

her husband’s name, the names of her childrens, the number of her children, the age and date of

birth of Michelline’s children, where they went to school and the addresses, the name of their

children’s teacher and even know their location through map. In this case, the parents unknowingly

have already put their children in a dangerous situation that could threaten the children’s safety.

To restate it, another tip for us to keep safe and protect our information is to be alert about privacy
settings and reminders to go through our friends on social media and change everything. Clear

anyone we’re not friends with anymore to not facilitate strangers accessing our personal

information and avoid digital crimes.

WEEK 8
The tittle of this video is ‘ The Impact of Social Media and Alcohol on Loneliness’ and the

duration is 7 minutes 11 seconds. The video was posted in YouTube by The Telegraph that Tacking

Britain’s loneliness epidemic ( Adolescene). The video relates to Hattie, a journalist who feel alone

and hopeless and got no friends. She was initially so focused on her profile on social media that

she was ignored and abandoned by her friends after which she gave up and decided to isolate

herself and tell stories about Laura using alcohol as a solace and socialize, but after that she

developed anxiety. She then decided to stop drinking alcohol but she had already major impact.

To summarize, it describes that social media can cause a person to be obsessed with fake words

and can ruin a person’s life especially teenagers with someone’s negative comments towards us

on social media. Next, alcohol though gives us peace of mind as we will forget about our problems

yet it is only temporary and from that we will experience lasting effects.

Knowledge gained from this video is almost 10% of people aged 16 to 24 are “always or

often lonely’. They are using some methods to avoid to be alone or lonely. To describes, social

media is rarely used by society to avoid loneliness especially teenagers. Teenagers spending almost

12 hours a day on social media to avoid loneliness. However, although didn’t feel alone on the

internet but alone in the real world which made them more to it and it also ruined the teenager’s

life because some will continue used social media to focus on themselves which makes them very

concerned about negative opinions of others on social media. Defined, a heavy drinking culture

can also act as a big pressure for young people. Those people who took their drinking games quite

seriously, they will start having a panick attacks and developed anxiety. Drinking made anxiety

worse and obviously let people having the negatives impact in life.

From watching this video, we can understand that social media and alcohol has the

advantages and disavantages in someone’s lifes. Social media has a lot of bad impact on a person’s
life, especially teenagers. They spend a lot of time surfing the internet and busying themselves on

social media as opposed to managing reality life as a teenager. This is what causes some teenagers

to experience mental disorders from strangers. For example, Hattie previously used social media

to focus on herself as a result of feeling lonely, she spent more time surfing the internet to increase

the number of her followers on tumblr until one point when she posted a picture of herself and

stated that she had bulimic, she got a lot of negative messages and that made her continue choose

to isolate herself then decided to stop using social media to focus on herself instead of social media

to help others in mental health issues and change her focus. To restate, for Laura, finding a

Facebook group of sober drinker has made her feel less lonely or alone. She used alcohol as a way

to relax and socialize, but when she develop anxiety, she gave up drinking and it had a major

impact towards her. Those people who took alcohol seriously and having a heavy drinking culture

may causes a bad impacts in life. You may felt sort of losing a little part of yourself although

you’re still going out and seeing your friends but you can’t do same thing as them because you

just don’t feel anything anymore.

WEEK 9
The video’s tittle is “Why Quitting Facebook and Instagram Made Me Happier” and the

duration of the video is 3 minutes and 29 seconds long. The video posted by CNBC in YouTube.

This video is about CNBC technology reporter Christina Farr deleted Facebook and Instagram

from her phone in August, and hasn’t checked either app since. Here’s how her social media detox

has improved her life.

Knowledge gained from this video is do not let social media take control of you and let

yourself controlling your social media. To define, when we just going to browser’s randomly

throughout the day and sometimes even just type in the letter F, which was bizzare because had no

intention really of ever being on Facebook. But it was this programmed behavior. For Christina

Farr, it only really took her two weeks before she found herself letting go of the urg turn to social

media during her downtime. To describes, it was just a really positive experience to take a break

from social media. Without the constant stream of updates from friends, it makes us feeling less

anxious about our own life and got better at just relaxing in those moments instead of looking at

Instagram or Facebook. To identify, social media sites don’t given up on us and those infinite

scrolling behaviour. Some people been getting just so many annoying emails from Facebook

telling that some random has like some other random person status and they’ve coming and more

frequently than longer been off. However, there are a few drawbacks to being off of these apps.

Understanding gained from this video is people nowadays more over using Facebook and

Instagram on their personal life and it just getting a little bit out of control. Explaining, Christina

Farr was ready in her top of mind that she should take break from social media when Facebook

and all these privacy scandals. She approached her boyfriend and decided to deleted Facebook and

Instagram from their phones and haven’t logged in since. For Christina Farr it’s a really positive

experience to take a break from social media. It is because instead of sharing our precious moment
on social media we can make those memories stay in the present by doing photo album because

no longer tied to social media and far from the habit of uploading pictures of memories on social

media. To classify, when we would be on Facebook and Instagram all the time, we just constantly

see those amazing vacation pictures and people getting married and having babbies and somehow

doing all of that and exceiling in their careers and it just always felt like we was falling behind.

But quitting from Facebook and Instagram, without the constant stream updates about

surroundings especially friends, it help us feeling less anxious about our own life. To summarize,

quitting from Facebook and Instagram make us feel better at just relaxing in those moments where

instead of looking on Instagram, we just vibing the surroundings and more to focus on positive

environment. But social media haven’t gae up on us, emails will send a lot of notification from

Facebook especially telling that some random person has liked some other random person status

and they’ve been coming and more frequently than longer been off. Perhaps, all the news and

moments from friends we will missed from take a break from Facebook and Instagram but overall

it just been a great break for us and would make sure that wasn’t doing any of those infinity

scrolling behaviour.
WEEK 10

The title of this video is ‘Sexual Abusive Trolling of Woman on Social Media’ and the

duration is 4:19 minutes. The name of this organisation is Hindustan Times where they design

news, views and explainers about current issues in India and across the globe. They always report

the news as quickly as possible, using new technological tools to reach us better and tell stories

with a 360 degree view to give you a better understanding of the world around us. To summarize

the video, it describes about the sexual abuse of women on social media platforms like twitter,

facebook and many more where they post their assignment work, photos or videos and then get a

response with lots of bad words and related to their physical, family members and personal lives.

The knowledge we gained from watching this video is where it tells us how social media

can ruin someone’s life physically and mentally where the victims from the video themselves

define that they are stalked, bullied, trolled, abused when they just post their pictures, videos,

assignments and more on their own account which often happens to women. To describe, women

are always victims of sexual abuse trolling on social media simply because of their gender while

men don’t really understand as they are the ones who mostly comment on bad words, violent acts,

rape threats and more related to body, family or job with the women’s posts, tweets, emails and

chats. Examples like, a journalist who got a major rape threat just because of her article about

awareness for raped women and an actress who got a porn inbox because of her movie. With this,

we can identify that even the small things women do on social media will get sexual abuse not

because of their personality or anything but because they are perceived as vulnerable targets

because their gender is women.

To classify, the thing that we understand from this video is that there is a big difference

when people troll men and women where when people troll men, people will just say things like

these men are getting paid to do this while on the women side, those people would use their

sexuality to question about their physicality and that none of their opinions are being appreciated

by the public. To explain further, women are basically treated awfully generally because of their

gender, sexuality and attraction to men that mostly done by people with psychological problems

where they do not feel empathy and do not understand the struggle being sexually abused on social

media. This situation makes us understand how dangerous social media is in women’s personal

lives where they cannot freely post anything they like because they are scared and afraid of being

cyber bullied on their feeds or chat boxes. In short, social media can be a great platform to express

what you feel, experience and more but because of this platform too it has been a nightmare to

some people who are mostly sexually abused women and that makes us know that we need to be

more careful with our accounts on social media to avoid bad things happening like in the videos

watched.
WEEK 11

The title of this video is ‘The Future of Trans Representation In Media’ and the duration is

2:36 minutes. The resourcer is a Transgender Advocate, Writer and Consultant named Tiq Milan

who shares what would transgender representation looks like in media on 2020 that is posted on

Huffpost channel. To summarize the video, it shares about all future transgender representations

on the media landscape and hopes there will be a bigger storyline about trans people to spread

more transgender stories to the world so that the media will better understand about trans people

as human beings and be a growing source of inspiration to the community.

The knowledge we learned from this video is that we can define that future transgender

representation is something that also requires acceptance and understanding the context that they

are trying to present to society as human beings, where transgender people also needs the same

treatment and justice as cisgender people. To describe, in the past, transgender representatives were

labeled as bad characters where some of them were called criminals, had unstable minds and were

punished for who they were, which showed how bad society was towards them. Even so,

transgender people are working hard to show complex transgender humanity through film to tell

their story to the world so that they can receive the same love and support from others. To state,

there are so many other aspects that are more important besides your gender that are important to

everyone no matter what you have become as long as you don’t harm each other and continue to

live as a growing inspiration to society.

Yet, this video makes us realize that it is not about gender, age, color and so on, but about

who we really are internally as human beings. This thing certainly makes sense to all of us because

it is our own choice, just like the people who decide to become trans people to find their true

identity inside them which they are valid in a lot of ways to exist in this world. In short, the media

should really change the perspective of transgender people because from the video, there are no

negative things they do to other human beings instead they show their real character to the world

through various strategies to tell that this culture is a dream for those who want to fulfill their

personal wants and needs to pursue a perfect life that is clearly not a demand from anyone. With

this, it makes us cognize that we can be whatever we want to be, as long as you live your life to

the fullest and do not degrade the lives of others.
