EUNICE DIMPLE B.

CALIWAG
MY DREAM CAREER THAT I NEVER HAD
“When I grew up, I wanted to be a good teacher. I loved teaching children!” said little
Eunice. When I was at the age of eight, I always wanted to be a teacher because I thought that it
was very cool to be able to take control of the students in the class. Since I started to go to
school, I liked to play with my cousins. We are always play "aral-aralan". It is a learning game
for my cousins. I acted as their teacher. I loved to provide them papers with activities copied
from my books, and I taught and shared with them what I have learned in my class. At that time,
to me, being a teacher meant to be very intelligent. I wanted to be an artist as well. I love
drawing specially to draw scenery of nature. I drew copying every detail of the picture and
making sure that every edge and curve is drawn according to its proportion. I loved to do
scrapbooks and combining colors. In short, I liked arts. I thought that I was very good at it
without learning the skills and techniques. My dream career did not change until I
graduated elementary. From grade 1 to grade 6 I always received awards and I got "Class
Salutatorian" which gave me a lot of opportunities. International Christian School, a private
school offered me a 100 percent scholarship, I grabbed this opportunity because it is a good
school to learn.
When I was in 9th grade as junior high student, I noticed and realized some things about
my future. Like many students, I, myself, am confused and I often ask to myself, “What do I
really want to be when I grow up?” or “What career is really fit for me?” I started dreaming of
becoming a Certified Public Accountant because at that time, I have always had Math as my
favorite subject. I am good at analyzing and solving problems/logics. I searched on google, what
is the best course to take in college for a student who likes math and good at analyzing problems.
I thought it was too easy for me. I still pursue it because it is the course that I think will help my
family in future. I want to earn money and it is the best course to take. When I graduated high
school, I decided that I was going to attend college and major in accounting. I take BSA,
Bachelor of Science in Accountancy in Quezon City University. I had an opportunity to become
a scholar ng bayan at that time. In my first year days, it was easy for me to understand basic
accounting and I am proud to say that I am the one of the students that got the “dean’s list”
award. In the second year of study, I experienced some problems and encountered big stress in
my life. Personal, family and love life problems. I started to lose my confidence and I don’t want
to listen and study accounting anymore and I thought that it was too easy for me. I want to give
up my course, but everyone expects me to become the first CPA in our family. I am not
interested and happy with my course. To make my story short, I made the best decision of my
life to make my life easier. I shifted and changed my school and course because I don’t want to
lie to myself about what I wanted in life. I think that CPA is not for me. I found Immaculada
Concepcion College. I take a course that is related to my past course which is Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration major in Financial Management. I am a 4th year student now,
hoping to graduate next year. I can say that I am happy and contented now with my new career
path. I am happy with my new classmates and I think the old Eunice is back. I love what I study.
And I want to graduate with a degree in order to enhance the quality of my life with a successful
and fulfilling career.
