1. A cube-shaped container with a height of 10 cm is filled with water
when a hole is punched into it.

This causes the volume of water inside the container to decrease. If

at 𝑡 seconds after the hole is punched, the volume inside the
container is given by

Solve for the instantaneous rate of change of the volume of water at:

a. v(𝑡) = 4
= 1000 - t 3

= -3 t 2

= - 3(4) 2

= - 48
b. (v)𝑡 = 271
=0
2. A pulley 4 meters from the ground is used to lift a 100 kg block. If
the rate at which the block is getting closer to the pulley is 0.2
meters/second, how fast is the block pulling away from the ground
when it is 3 meters from the ground?

x + y=4

= -0.20 m/s

The rate of the pulley that is pulling away from the

ground is 0.20m/s.
