Carpet making is one of the oldest forms of traditional art in Azerbaijan.
People have been making carpets since old times in our country.
Traditionally, carpet makers are women. Women start making carpets from
very early ages because their mothers, aunts and grandmothers are also
carpet makers. They use sceneries from their everyday life while making
their carpets. Thus, carpets usually describe nature, national holidays or
cultural events.
Carpets are produced in many regions of our country. In most regions
carpets are made of wool. Only in Shaki carpets are made of silk. Silk
carpets are usually very expensive. Generally, a lot of factors, such as their
colour, age and design determine the price of carpets.
