Introduction
Bluetooth Wireless Technology (BWT) was developed in1994 at Ericsson in Sweden. It is
named for Harald Blaatand. Bluetooth-Wireless and Automatic technology simplifying art of
communication. Frequency used is 2.45 GHz, same used in ISM devices. Purpose – Originally, it
was built to eliminate the need for cable connections between PDAs and notebook PCs. Later the
goals were to enable different devices through commonly accepted standard for wireless
connectivity. Ericsson on advent of BWT conceptualized a Radio Technology through a wireless
personal area network (WPAN).

Bluetooth-Wireless technology providing link between mobile and electronic devices. It operates
on 2.45 GHz radio signals using frequency hopping spread spectrum. Technology of Bluetooth
concentrates on short range of communication.

Definition
Wireless sensor networks are networks of small computers, fitted with sensors, microprocessors,
and wireless interfaces. This technology has achieved a lot of attention lately. These networks
are suggested for the wide range of modern and fascinating applications, from personal health
care to environmental monitoring and military applications. Different wireless technologies, such
as simple RF, Bluetooth, UWB or infrared, may be used to communicate between sensors. The
core concepts, features, and problems of Bluetooth-based wireless sensor networks are outlined
in this, as well as the execution of a simple Bluetooth-based sensor network. The presentation of
the main problems experienced during the implementation and applied solutions is also done.
This is specified on the smart sensor networks using the Bluetooth topology. How smart sensor
networks are used and can be implemented using the Bluetooth technology. How they are used
as the purpose of communication in industrial field, how they are built, their working and
concept are reviewed. Architecture, network, applications, and working have been reviewed for
the communication and research purpose.

Wireless sensor networks may comprise numerous different types of sensors like low sampling
rate, seismic, magnetic, thermal, visual, infrared, radar, and acoustic, which are clever to monitor
a wide range of ambient situations. Sensor nodes are used for constant sensing, event ID, event
detection & local control of actuators. The applications of wireless sensor networks mainly
include health, military, environmental, home, & other commercial areas.

Advantages and Disadvantages or issues

Advantages
 It avoids interference from other wireless devices.

 It has lower power consumption.

 It is easily upgradeable.

 It has range better than Infrared communication.

 The Bluetooth is used for voice and data transfer.

 Bluetooth devices are available at very cheap cost.

 No line of sight hence can connect through any obstacles.

 Free to use if the device is installed with Bluetooth.

 The technology is adopted in many products such as head set, in car system, printer, web
cam, GPS system, keyboard and mouse.

 Easy link establishment

 Low Cost

 Low Power Consumption

 Short Range

 Wireless Technology

 Reasonable throughput

 Low maintenance cost

Disadvantages
 As it is wireless in nature, it is prone to hacking by hackers.

 It cannot be used for high-speed communication as it is designed for low speed

applications.

 It is expensive to build such network and hence cannot be affordable by all.

 There are various challenges to be considered in WSN such as energy efficiency, limited
bandwidth, node costs, deployment model, and Software/hardware design constraints and
so on.

 In star topology based WSN, failure of central node leads to whole network shutdown.

 Short Range (10 - 100 m)

 Average Speed

Conclusion
Interesting research area with many possible solutions. They are based on many collaborative
efforts of small devices. Many open issue related to physical layer, MAC layer, routing layer and
application layer
