The Cult of Saint Lazarus

Horrors past and present...

This is a project still in progress about an evil dating back to the Horus Heresy, they failed to
properly clean it up, now it's back to haunt them...

The Saint Lazarus Temple Guard

The Saint Lazarus Temple Guard dates back from before the Horus Heresy. The saint Lazarus
Guard served on a Shrine world dedicated to St. Lazarus. They had fairly easy lives and this led
them to unruly and undisciplined. Just when the local clergy wanted to call in reinforcements the
Horus Heresy began. At that time Saint Lazarus appeared to them and spoke the following
words to them, words that would condemn them for all times.

“We therefore commit their bodies to the debts of space, to be turned into corruption, looking
for the resurrection of the body and the life of the world to come, through our Lord; who at his
coming shall change our vile body, that it may be like his glorious body, according to the mighty
working whereby he is able to subdue all things into himself.”

They ventured into space and turned away from the forces of Terra and joined the forces of
Horus. Their leader General Azarius began receiving visions from Saint Lazarus for the
construction of truly vile biological and warp related weapons. They constructed the weapons
and tested them on several planets corrupting and mutating billions. Over time they themselves
became vile, corrupted and mutated but still fiercely loyal to their patron saint who promised
them corruption before they would resemble his glorious body. Through the centuries they left a
trail of destruction as they invaded a multitude of planets, many of those planets were later
nuked out of existence. Eventually the Grey Knights tracked them down after countless
atrocities, they entered warp space while they got hit and were hopelessly knocked out of
course. General Azarius ordered
his men to enter their stasis pods except for only a bare skeleton crew. It finally emerged in the
Calixes system but was still spinning out of control due to the damage. Through great effort of
the Captain Azarius and his remaining crew they managed to crash land the gigantic vessel on
the surface of Hesiod’s Wake. Though the ship was destroyed for the better part a large part of
the stasis pods were still intact.

Here the followers of St. Lazarus lay dormant for many centuries, slowly mutating and dreaming
dreams of apocalyptic mutation, disease and destruction so they can better serve their
daemonic saint.
The ship has disappeared of the millennia due to overgrowth and perhaps, divine intervention.

Saint Lazarus
Though the original Saint Lazarus was a true Imperial the entity the Saint Lazarus Temple
Guard follow is nothing less then a Daemon Prince of Nurgle, a truly ancient creature. When

it saw a group of unruly bored yet religious band of soldiers it found a group of ready followers.
It first invaded General Azarius and wrote the Saint Lazarus Codex and Religious Rites and
then led them into space. There it possessed the ship itself and started do it’s work on the rest
of the crew while it kept feeding vision into the minds of Azarius and his scientists. When it had
nowhere left to run it foresaw the future and led the ship to the Calixes System with all the
power it had left. After the crash it went dormant.
Now it’s slowly awakening, already subconsciously corrupting new followers on the planet
surface and inspiring a prophet to write his new book, the Codex of the Resurrection.

The Codex of the Resurrection

Author: Izakha Lemmons
This book preaches the values of the Imperium and the God Emperor in a truly dogmatic and
archaic way. Though this book appears normal reading it, or being preached from it has a
dangerous side effect, it opens people to the mind of Saint Lazarus, slowly infusing them with
his ideas and slowly corrupting them. Saint Lazarus is never mentioned anywhere in the book
though those skilled in ciphers can find his name through anagrams and symbols.

The New Cult of Saint Lazarus

Half a decade ago the cleric Izakha Lemmons had a dream, he was visited by a perfectly white
angel, and the angel inspired him to write a book, The Codex of the Resurrection. The
community of Ergant on Hesiod’s Wake was a relatively small farming community of no more
than 125.000 souls. Though they always hit their quota they were an uninspired bunch of lost
souls. Izakha
started to preach from it and soon inspired his uninspired flock to work once again in Harmony.
Izakha slowly began seeing that the Imperium is a fraud and that it has to be reborn. But before
it can be reborn it has to be turned into corruption. Knowing well that preaching this openly
would get the Inquisition on him quickly he has secretly sent apostles to other planets within the
system who preach in his footsteps.

The Cult of the Resurrection is slowly growing…

Common Mutation for the New Cult of Saint Lazarus:

- Necrophage
- Feels no Pain
- Wyrdling

Izakha Lemmons and his strongest apostles also most certainly have the Hellspawn mutation
though they might become more powerful when Saint Lazarus truly awakes.
