Minidiag 2

Minidiag 2 is a diagnostic and parameter-setting aid of the Powertrain Business Unit of

DaimlerChrysler AG. It can be used autonomously or in combination with Star Diagnose®
products.

Minidiag 2 is available in three versions:

Version 1 = successor of Minidiag "1" with diagnostic texts.
MBSN: A0001530918
Version 2 = includes a PC program for the transfer of description files and parameter
blocks.
MBSN: A0001531018
Version 3 = with authorization to influence the legal speed limiting.
For this, the legal provisions in ECE-R 89 (Part I, section 5.1.2.2)
must be complied with.

1.2. General

G Accident and life hazard!

The Minidiag 2 diagnostic unit can be

used to influence safety-relevant
settings for the engine and the vehicle
(e.g. accelerator pedal evaluation,
activation of engine brake, etc.).
The inappropriate modification of
parameters can severely influence the
behaviour of the engine or the vehicle.
This could cause personal injury and
material damage.

1.7. Mercedes-Benz
genuine parts

Mercedes-Benz genuine parts are subjected

to extremely stringent quality controls and
guarantee maximum functionality, safety and
reliability.
Each part is designed, manufactured,
selected and released specially for
DaimlerChrysler.
As a result, DaimlerChrysler cannot be held
liable for any damage arising from the use of
part or accessories that do not meet those
requirements.
In the Federal Republic of Germany and in
certain other countries, specific parts, e.g.
safety parts, may only be installed or
converted if they conform to the applicable
legal provisions.
Mercedes-Benz genuine parts invariably
fulfill this condition.

6
1.8. Operating conditions – No warranty claims can be made for
defects to be traced back to improper
operation, inappropriate or careless
handling or maintenance.

! The operating conditions listed

below must be strictly adhered
to so as to avoid any damage to
the unit or its components.
Defective units must be returned within their
warranty period (6 months as from
DaimlerChrysler date of shipping) to:
– Do not store or operate the unit at
DaimlerChrysler AG
locations that have high dust penetration

or air humidity levels.
Abteilung PBE/MSS
– The storage temperature must never
Vaihinger Straße 131
exceed 80°C.
– The operating temperature lies between 70567 Stuttgart
0°C and 50°C.
Higher temperatures may impair the
function of electronic components.
– Make sure to keep the unit dry. Any liquid
entering the unit causes corrosion of the
electronic circuits which may lead to
operational failure of the unit.
– Never open the unit.
Once the unit has been opened the
warranty no longer applies.
Inappropriate handling may result in
damage being caused to the unit.
– Do not drop the unit or expose it to shocks
or impacts as the printed circuit boards in
the unit may thus be broken.
This may lead to operational failure of the
unit.
– Do not use aggressive chemicals,
solutions or caustic cleaning agents to
clean the unit.
Wipe the unit using a soft cloth
impregnated with a soapy solution.
– The unit is designed for diagnostic
purposes and not for continuous
operation.

7
2. General

The Minidiag 2 diagnostic unit allows the

following operations to be carried out on
Mercedes-Benz electronic control units:

– Program accelerator pedal (see page 17),

– Set parameters (see page 19),
– Read actual values (see page 25),
– Read / delete fault code memory
(see page 29).

To allow our electronic control units to be

brought in line with the latest technological
developments, we reserve the right to alter
them without prior notice.
For this reason no claims whatsoever can be
derived from any of the data, figures and
descriptions contained in this user manual.

Minidiag 2, this means that no explanatory texts
for fault codes, measured values etc. are
available. Parameter settings and special
diagnostic routines cannot be carried out for this
ecu.

4.7. Program accelerator pedal
No constant signal values are assigned to the
accelerator-pedal stops (idling, full throttle). This is
why the accelerator pedal must be programmed into
the vehicle ecu. This procedure stores the
accelerator-pedal stops in the ecu’s non-volatile
memory. The programming must be repeated when
the accelerator pedal or the ecu is replaced.
