Design Scenario 1

Independent National Electoral Commission

The Independent National Electoral Commission has Offices in 36 States and the FCT. Within the FCT the
organization has other Offices - the Electoral Institute and the FCT office. The HQ of the organization is
Located in Maitama in Abuja while the FCT office is Located in Area 3 and the Electoral Institute near the
National Hospital. The HQ is a campus made up of 1 six storey, a 1 4-storey building and a couple of
other buildings separated from each other. There are more than 2000 network points required at the
HQ, 150 points at the state offices and the FCT. The Electoral Institute has need for 350 points with
three campus building including a large conference room. The HQ also has a large conference room.

The Organization is desirous of sharing Internet access that came in to the HQ to all the other stations.
are expected to update the central data and to query the data centre for duplicate registrants. The INEC
will like to have a SECURE network.

Design a network that will allow a seamless communication between the states and the HQ. The
Chairman of the organization will also like to have a video conferencing with his State officers. They ‘ll
like to cut down on the cost of telephone conversation by using an IP based telephone. Specific officers
will be allowed International Communication at a reduced cost.

Network Design Scenario 2

The Nigerian Turkish Nile University

The University has a main campus in Abuja, Nigeria. The Campus at present has 5 major buildings at the
main site. Each building is 5-storey building and separated by more than 1,000 meter. Main building 1
and 2 will need about 2,000 network points. There is a need for wireless access at the conference points
and free areas. Indeed it should be possible to browse anywhere within the Campus – Indoors and
outdoors. The hostels also have a projected need of about 1,500 networking points.

The University is in close collaboration with other Nigerian Turkish International Colleges located in
Lagos, Abeokuta, Kaduna, Kano, Maiduguri, Yola, Portharcourt, Sokoto, Ibadan. The University is
desirous of communicating effectively and SECURELY with these schools and offer special online
teaching for courses where adequate teachers are not available in a Blackboard format. Each of the
schools will need about 250 points.

Within Abuja, there is an NTIC, the Nigerian Turkish Nizamiye Hospital and other 3 other Turkish Nigeria
Organizations with whom communication will be required. There is a need for Video Conferencing.

To cut cost and because of unavailability of adequate Internet access at the different school Turkey and
in particular take benefit of their online based courses and the Online library. They will like to cut
telephone bills both locally and internationally. Design a Network and Communication systems to make
this possible.

Network Design Scenario 3

GTBank Plc

The Guaranty Bank Plc is desirous of having a secure communication with its branches and the HQ
located in Lagos. The HQ is a twenty storey building complete with Conference rooms and sundry. The
bank has about 50 branches in Lagos. There is a need for 100 X 20 = 2,000 points at the HQ. The bank
has branches in every state of the federation with about 30 branches across each state. Each branch
needs about 100 networking points. The bank will need to do SECURE real time online banking in its
branches across the country. The bank also has branches in Ghana, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, the UK
and one in the United States. The bank has ATM at every branch and additional networks of ATM all
over the country.

Design an appropriate platform for banking and other communication services including voice and video
communication.

Network Design Scenario 4

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)

The NNPC has its Headquarters in Abuja with about 5 imposing structures located in the Central Area of
Abuja. Each structure is 15-strorey and spans more than 200 square meters. The Organization has about
5 other offices within Abuja located 5 Kilometers from each other. The Organization has Refineries in
Kaduna, Portharcourt and Warri. In each of these Cities there are disparate subsidiaries located far
from the refineries but within the cities. Aside of these, the NNPC has station in remote locations
(pumping stations and sundry) with need for about 50 points and need data and voice. In Lagos the
NNPC has a main Lagos office and about 6 subsidiaries (50 points). Apart from the Refineries the NNPC
has a representation at every state of the federation with about network point’s requirements of 100.

A refinery is a set of huge platforms occupying about 5 Kilometer square.

NNPC has to communicate with their overseas subsidiaries and with their Joint Partners (Shell, Mobil,
and Chevron, Locally and Overseas.

All these stations require data, voice and video communication.

Design a network framework for NNPC.

Network Design Scenario 5

Park and Shop

Park and Shop is a huge retail set-up with shops in all the states of the federation. In each of the States
they have a major Outlet and five sub-outlets which are essentially controlled by the city outlet. The
main city complex is a huge 10 storey building with about 50 point of Sales and 200 network points for
Accounting, Inventory and Administrative chores. The Outlet will require just about 50 outlets. The HQ is
also a typical city outlet in Abuja with a Hierarchical connections to the States shops. The state shops
control their sub-outlets. This Organization has an Overseas outlet with coordinates the purchase of
their items. In some cases they relate directly with other overseas suppliers.

Design a network system that is capable of supporting real time on-line physical stores which is capable
of allowing purchases over the counter. The managers must be able to access the inventory of other
stores, they must be able to talk and must be able to do Video Conferencing where necessary.

Network Design Scenario 6

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC)

The NIMC is charged with issuing identity cards to every Nigeria. In pursuit of its objective to carry out
this mandate it has establish state offices in all states of the Federation. The NIMC also have several
outposts where they register Nigerians. Assume 500 outposts per state. These outposts have a
registration unit which is expected to query a central database located in Abuja and Minna (A disaster
Recovery Site). This is to ensure that any prospective registrants do not register twice.

Design a network that is capable of supporting a Datacenter with stores more than 90 million records of
Nigerians. In addition a system that is able to allow a real time online query form several outposts.

Network Design Scenario 7

Inter Campus Network Design for NTNU, AUST and BAZE Universities

African University of Science and Technology, the Nigerian Turkish Nile University and the Baze
University are located within a radius of 10 Km. These Universities are desirous of collaborating by
sharing lecture modules, Libraries and other essential facilities. The heads of these organization will
like to set up online meetings between themselves. Students are also allowed to attend virtual
classes, online lectures and video lectures should be supported.
Design a Network to support the above description
