7 – Enrichment Learning Activities

Programs Description Grade Level/# Students


6th grade STEM classes created a device to aid a
student with cerebral palsy. Selected groups
Foot Orthosis Challenge  meeting all the rubric requirements were selected 6th grade – 325 students 
to present their AFO projects to a group of experts.
(Physical Therapist and several engineers) 
8th grade students researched and explored water
quality and ways to filter it. Students also toured 8th grade STEM 1 – 25
Water Filtration Field Trip 
our local water treatment plant and interviewed students 
experts in that field.  
Meets weekly during the first semester to
complete STEM challenge and participate in
various competitions offered through the
STEM Club  University of Memphis.  Currently participating in 6-8th grade, 27 students 
the 2021 UofM ITE Innov8 Pedestrian Safety
Challenge.  Students will code various robots: 
drones, Spheros, Lego Spike.   
Engineering Day at University of Memphis 2019,
E-Day Competition  6-8th grade, 48 students 
competition was cancelled 2020 & 2021 
Mindstorm Robotics Team meets weekly from
August to March.  Students are challenged to build 6-8th grade, 6 to 8
First Lego League 
& code a robot and solve a real-world problem. students per team 
Students compete in several local completions.  
New club for 2021 – Students will explore types of
soil, pollution problems local & global, drainage
Environmental Club  solutions, and effective gardening methods. 6- 8th grade, 25 students 
Students will plant seeds and care for them until
the end of the school year.

Chess Club  Students learn to play chess and participate in a 6- 8th grade, 25 students 
school organized competition.

Guitar Club  Students learn to play guitar and simple songs.
