In The Marrow Thieves, by Cherie Demiline, Migwans is a very important leader, who has

many skills. This is why and how. He really knows how to take care of the group, he knows

that if one member of the group were to die, it would not end well at all. Like when Frenchie

grabs the chain link fence, and Miig says, "No one is more important than anyone else,

French."- (Dimaline, 58). He knows that French is a Huge part of the group and that they

would struggle without him in the group. There is proof that this would happen, because

when Riri died, they all mourned for a long time and could not get back to normal for a

while. Miig is a very wise person. He knows what he is talking about, and seems to have

answer for a lot of things. I think that this is because his husband was very smart, and

maybe that he had a house in the wild for a long time, so he knew how to fend for himself.

He has many Stories to tell the group, good and bad, and he knows the history of the First

Nations well. Miig tells the group about how the First Nations People struggled in earlier

years. “We suffered there. We almost lost our languages. Many lost their innocence, their

laughter, their lives. But we got through it, and the schools were shut down.”- (Dimaline,

23-24). Miig also knows nature and survival skills very well. As previously mentioned, it may

be because he has lived in the woods for a very long time, and has taught himself many

things. This shows when Wab asks if they can use the fireplaces, but Miig knows that the

smoke will lead the hunters to them and says, “Can’t use the fireplaces, they’ll send smoke

above the treeline and fast.” (Dimaline, 61). He knows many interesting and important facts

like this, all of which keep the family safe and away from danger. In conclusion, Miig is a

very helpful, wise and outdoorsy person based off of all the evidence provided. The family

would not survive without him and he is vital for them to thrive.
