Step #3
● Write the paragraph

The novel “The Marrow Thieves”, written by Cherie Dimaline, shows that elders

are a valuable asset to their communities because they are wise, welcoming, and calm.

First of all, the elders are wise because Minerva passes on her knowledge through telling

stories about the rougarou. In the text it says “This is my grandmere’s story, told to me

when me and my sisters were turning into women.'' (Dimaline 66-68). Secondly, they are

very welcoming. Miig says “Hey, boy, can you hear me? You’ll need to drink some of this

water.” (Dimaline 15). Miig welcomed Frenchie into his family/community in order to help

Frenchie survive. I also think a benefit of Miig introducing Frenchie to his found family is

that Frenchie could help to build and strengthen his community. Finally, the elders are calm

because the text says “When she was gone, Miig placed her hand on her chest and

rubbed her arm, smiling.” (Dimaline 211). This shows that after the tragic death of Minerva,

Miig was very calm considering the situation. In conclusion, the elders in the communities

have the ideal qualities you would want to have in a leader.
