1. INTRODUCTION

1a. Name of Project:

Concrete slab scanning at Sports Corner-Salwa

 Total 4 points at location

1b. Outline of the Project:

Concrete scanning in different locations inside branch building of Sports Corner Salwa

, premises for the rebar details and to detect any utility lying beneath the slab/wall.

2. GROUND PENETRATING RADAR

2a. What is GPR?

Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is an advanced, non-invasive, sub-surface imaging
technique that uses short pulses of electromagnetic energy to ‘see’ into the ground
(Figure 1). GPR can image through soil, concrete, asphalt, rock and wood. It is quick and
easy to use in comparison to other investigative methods. It is capable of probing down to
a few tens of meters (depending on the system type and ground conditions) and provides
the user with an instant ‘cross-sectional’ image of the sub-surface

This non-destructive method uses electromagnetic radiation in the microwave band

(UHF/VHF frequencies) of the radio spectrum, and detects the signals reflected from
subsurface structures. GPR is generally successful at determining the shape, size, extent
and depth of a buried object. It can be used to find pipes, foundations, voids, trenches,
geological layers, reinforcing bars, etc. It works best in dry and semi-dry ground
environments

3. FIELD LOGISTICS
GPR scanning at the locations were done using Hilti PROFIS PS 1000 Scanning Machine.
Depth of 300mm was scanned using 1600MHz antenna.
04 areas in different locations were scanned and are marked as-

 Locations Points :
 SP01, SP04, SP05, SP06

4. DISCUSSION OF RESULTS
The data collected was good and shows high lateral and vertical resolution. The values
used for the setting were good as the data were matching with the certain physical
parameters. The data collected were analyzed using Radar 7 software and checked for
the reinforcement details and utilities. The data analyzed and clearly added in the pages
below

6. CONCLUSIONS
1. A GPR survey has been conducted at different locations along selected sections of
SPORTS CORNER -SALWA premises as per the client’s requirements and specifications.
This GPR survey used to detect reinforcements and utility details.

2. GPR scanning was conducted using 1.6GHz antenna.

3. All the coordinates mentioned are in centimeters and millimeters.

4. A tolerance of +/- 20% should be applied in the GPR results and the locations provided.

DISCLAIMER

GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) is a form of Non-Destructive Testing used by Technical

Imaging Services. GPR can produce false positives and false negatives. Additionally, results
can vary when utilizing GPR depending on several factors, including, but not limited to,
inadequate working space (e.g. no GPR data can be collected within 6” of any vertical
obstruction for concrete inspection), depth of signal penetration, extreme temperatures,
subsurface distribution/geometry, classification, conductivity and moisture content of
subsurface material, spatial placement of objects within, or obstructions within the
examination area, such as reinforcing steel, steel mesh, metallic filings, conduits, metal
fencing, catch basins, and railway lines among others. Based on the above limitations,
Customer is advised, and hereby agrees, to corroborate GPR data with other sources
(engineering plans, schematics, and building history) before making a determination for the
location of any destructive testing.
GPR cannot completely eliminate the risk of avoiding rebar, post tension cables, conduits or
pipes before cutting, coring, or trenching but it can greatly reduce your chances and save
you a lot of money.
As a general rule, you should cut, core, or trench as far away from a marked hazard as
possible. For rebar, we advise leaving a 2 inch margin from the edge of the line. For post
tension cable or conduit, we advise leaving a 3 inch margin from the edge of the line.
Analysis provided by the Drillone Trading & Contracting to the Customer is based on
collected data that is imperfect and incomplete due to the limitations of the technology
used for scanning. As such, Drillone will provide advice, but no express or implied warranty,

on the probable location of embedment that may be detected by the technology used by
Drillone.
The final determination for the location of any destructive testing is at the sole discretion of
the Customer, not the Drillone Trading & Contracting WLL.
