Assignments and Deadlines

Contact Dr. Hien (meek1512@gmail) if you need further instruction about assignments.

I. MID-TERM EVALUATION:
1. Seminar on the analysis of Green efficiency in scientific papers
- Class is divided into 9 groups (3 students/group). Each group will be assigned one scientific paper to
analyze:
- Students’ task: using the knowledge you have learned to analyze the green metrics and principles
of green chemistry used in this paper. Establish the AE/PMI/PME calculation file (excel file) based
on the reference file. The PowerPoint file (for a presentation of about 15 min.) should include the
following points:

1. Short introduction to the reaction

2. Importance of the reaction

3. Analysis regarding the 12 principles

4. Analysis of AE/PMI/PME

5. How can the reaction be modified to more greenness

6.  One alternative reaction and analysis of it - positive or negative example - this is your
decision.

- Due date for the report (PowerPoint and Excel files): 23h, 20/2/2022 by email to Dr. Hien
meek1512@gmail.
- Seminar date: week 5. Each group has 15 min for presentation and 15 min for discussion/Q&A.

2. Project assignment
- Class is divided into 9 groups (3 students/groups). Each group is assigned one of the following
projects.
- Due date for report: 10/4/2022 by email to Dr. Hien meek1512@gmail.
- Presentation date: week 12. Each group has 10 min for presentation and 10 min for discussion,
Q&A.
Project topics:
Project 1. Water Quality Analysis (choose one of the surface water sources such as Nghia
Tan lake, To Lich river, etc.)
1
Task: planning your project in detail (sampling surface water, methods of water analysis),
sampling, conducting analysis experiments, writing a report, presenting your results.

Project 2. Preparation of bio-soap and biodiesel:

Task: searching the literature about bio-soap and biodiesel, conducting experiments to
synthesize these products, writing a report, presenting your results and products.

Project 3: Green fertilizers (composts from domestic organic wastes)

Task: searching the literature about green fertilizers, conducting experiments to prepare
compost from domestic organic wastes, growing some plants/vegetables using this compost,
writing a report, presenting your results and products.

Project 4: Reduce plastic pollution (3R: Reduce-Reuse-Recycle)

Task: searching the literature and writing a report on 3R models (Reduce-Reuse-Recycle) to

deal with plastic wastes; conducting experiments on reusing plastic wastes, presenting your
product(s) with a video recording the experiment process.

II. REGULAR EVALUATION

1. Learning attitude, Exercise assessment on class
2. Discussion on 7 Sustainable techniques (Microwave technology, Ultrasound technology,
Photo and solar photochemistry, Electrochemistry, Catalysis, Flow chemistry, Microreactor):

Group 1 Microwave technology

Group 2 Ultrasound technology
Group 3 Photo and solar
photochemistry
Group 4 Electrochemistry
Group 5 Catalysis
Group 6 Flow chemistry
Group 7 Microreactor

+ Before class: Students will work in groups: search for some examples to illustrate the assigned
Green techniques, prepare a short talk (ca. 5 min.).
+ On class: The lecture will be interspersed with short talks of the groups on their case study,
followed by a discussion (week 9 and 10).
