Wet Feet , CANSail I, II, III, IV and V courses. Learning to sail will provide a life time of enjoyment
anywhere your child's life takes them. Independence, confidence & team work. There is nothing
quite like it.
THE PROGRAM:
The Junior Squadron sailing program is designed to teach the safe and proper handling of a small
sailboat. Juniors are taught the theory and techniques as outlined by Sail Canada (C.Y.A.) with as much
practice time on the water as possible, weather permitting. While on the water, the juniors will be
supervised by our Sail Canada approved instructors, from power rescue boats. The students will be
taught and tested on the CANSail “learn to sail” standards starting with Cansail 1 through to Cansail VI.
Once the fundamentals have been mastered, the more advanced students will be introduced to small
boat racing.
Please note: All our sailing programs run from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday. The camp is open
during statutory holidays. Race Teams run on individual schedules issued by the coaches.
This course is Monday to Friday, for the duration of 2 weeks. Students will sail our club Squadron 13’s.
Students will learn the basic skills of sailing from rigging to your position in the boat, steering sail handling
etc.
Session 1 - Monday, June 28th to Friday, July 9th
Session 2 - Monday, July 12th to Friday, July 23rd
Session 3 - Monday, July 26th to Friday, August 6th
Session 4 - Monday, August 9th to Friday, August 20th
This course is Monday to Friday, 4 week session. Students will sail our club 420’s. Student's will take their
"basic" skills to another level developing further their skipper and crewing skills. Spinnaker and trapeze
will be introduced.
Session 1 – Monday, June 28th to Friday July 23rd
Session 2 - Monday, July 26th to Friday, August 20th
An intensive sailing program designed to teach advanced theory, racing rules, racing, tactics, spinnaker,
trapeze and qualify these students for the CANSail 5+6 level.
A Sail Canada qualified coach, who will instruct students and coach them on the racecourse, directs this
programme. For more information on this course please contact the BYC office.
REFUND & CANCELLATION POLICY: An administration fee of $50.00 will be charged for all
cancellations received later than June 1st, 2021. There will be no refund after the start of classes which is
June 28, 2021
CLOTHING AND SAFETY GEAR: Students must wear soft-soled shoes, and bring their own MINISTRY
OF TRANSPORT approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD). Water ski vests, belts, and air cell jackets
are NOT acceptable. The student will not be permitted on the water if the safety equipment does not meet
the approval of the Club Manager.
LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION: Courses are conducted primarily in English; however, our instructors
are bilingual and will assist any student in either of Canada’s official languages.
METHOD OF PAYMENT:
Cheque made payable to the Beaconsfield Yacht Club must be current and will be cashed immediately

The BYC Code of Conduct for junior sailors is aimed at providing a safe and effective
learning environment for individual sailors and for the entire sailing class.

• That they will treat their fellow sailors, their instructors, and BYC members with courtesy

• That they will respect the on-land and on-water environment by the proper disposal of
their refuse.
