In order to cope with 21st Century Education, how should teachers/student teachers be
developed to become competent and effective in the teaching of 21st Century Literacies?

With the integration of technology into every area, the education system of the twenty-first
century has altered dramatically. Simultaneously, the students are more mature than they were
previously. Education in the twenty-first century is now based on critical thinking, interpersonal
skills, information media, technological skills, and life skills. Today's education, in particular,
places a strong focus on life and professional skills. There is no longer any benefit in rote
learning. It must, in general, suit the demands of the industry. To be clear, successful teaching
occurs when a student can apply the lesson outside of the classroom.

Teachers have a key role in changing the globalizing environment and enhancing long-term
education. At the same time, a teacher must motivate and support students in using digital tools
to acquire employable skills. As a result, a digital teacher will be a twenty-first-century teacher.
Teachers are accountable for educating students in areas such as employability skills, mind
expansion, digital citizenship, critical thinking, and creativity, as well as long-term learning, and
they are no longer only facilitators for students' learning. As a result, when the students win, the
teachers benefit. The teacher's role has changed dramatically over time as technology has
become more integrated into many parts of life. They need to hone a few skills to assist their
pupils in their development. Otherwise, students will miss the lesson, resulting in a rise in
educated unemployed in the digital era.

Now, let's take a look at how instructors/student teachers might be prepared to teach 21st
Century Literacies competently and successfully.

1. The Teacher should be A Provider of Resources

The internet is full of helpful materials in this digital age. Students will learn more
profoundly if they have access to resources when a teacher teaches from a collaborative
approach. YouTube Video Tutorials, Digital Content, eBooks, and even printed documents are
examples. If the student is given the resources, they need to improve their critical thinking,
communication skills, collaboration, and creativity, they may take charge of their destiny. A
teacher can show resources to students based on their interests. Even a teacher can't be an expert
on all of the issues, but he can simply point out the resources that can help. It will create more
conducive learning environments, and students will be more involved in the lessons.

2. The Teacher should be A Digital Instructor for a Variety of Learning

Effective teachers do not restrict their students' access to learning tools. As a result, they are
the ideal teacher for the children. They will, on the other hand, make the instructional materials
engaging. You can find a lot of providers who are teaching the subject well in the digital age.
The instructor understands how to provide all pupils with significant learning opportunities.
Using real-life examples in the classroom or partnering with another teacher in a class might also
help kids learn more effectively. To underline, they understand that combining information with
an expert collaborator can encourage students.

3. The Teacher should be A Facilitator of Learning

A digital teacher, or a leader in the teaching profession, does not solely instruct students.
They also assist their colleagues in becoming technology supporters by showing them where to
locate online resources and how to keep current on their field. They understand how to enjoy
their job and make the class enjoyable. That is to say, they serve as a facilitator for all students
and teachers. Remember that sharing your knowledge allows you to learn more deeply. People
will adore you in the same way.

4. The Teacher should be able to Foster Positive Relationships Amongst Students

In a digital world where students can count the number of friends that they have by the likes
they get on Facebook and Instagram, it is essential now more than ever for educators to be able
to foster healthy relationships among their students. An effective teacher will have the ability to
facilitate interpersonal relationships within the classroom so that students will have a sense of
community and be able to communicate with their peers on a higher level than just social media.

Educators must be able to develop good relationships among their pupils today more than
ever in a digital age where youngsters may tally their friends by the number of likes they receive
on Facebook and Instagram. In the classroom, a competent teacher will be able to build
interpersonal bonds, allowing students to experience a feeling of belonging and engage with their
classmates on a level that goes beyond social media.
5. The Teacher should be A Forward Thinker

A 21st-century educator can anticipate and plan for the future. They can push their students
to guarantee that they can traverse this ever-changing technological environment. They may use
current trends and technology to help students prepare for the unexpected.

6. The Teacher should be a Lifelong Learner

A lifetime learner is an effective teacher who is the builder of a nation. To emphasize, they
are up to date on the most recent developments in their field. On the other hand, they keep track
of which employees will be available in the coming decade. They also master the most up-to-
date technology to assist the kids. To put it another way, they understand how to blend
technology, pedagogy, and content in a way that promotes Real-World Problem Solving and
cooperative learning. To summarize, a teacher must adhere to Henry Ford's quotes.

Anyone who quits learning, whether they are twenty or eighty, is old. Anyone who continues
to study remains youthful. Keeping your mind youthful is the most important thing you can do in
life.

7. The Teacher should be able to Adapt to Change

In the twenty-first century, a teacher must be able to welcome change. Given the fast
changes in technology and the way children learn, educators must be able to accept and adapt to
change. Technology advances regularly, as do new educational approaches, testing processes,
and our capacity to learn and interact with others. A competent teacher in the twenty-first century
must be able to adapt to and embrace anything and everything.

In summary, if we, as teachers, take the time to build the attributes that a successful 21st-
century educator must possess, we will have done our job in educating our students to live and
navigate in an ever-changing world. We have done our job successfully when we can accept
technology or whatever comes our way, predict our kids' futures, educate to reach all learners,
build genuine, authentic connections in an age where technology has taken over, and be lifelong
learners.

In conclusion, who will be the illiterate of the twenty-first century?

“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who
cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn”. – Alvin Toffler.
