“Memoirs of Teenage Rebellion”

To begin with, teen rebellion is the highest expression of independence and the least
obedience to parental guidance during a child's adolescent years. It's referred to as a "rebellion"
because it leads to a heated argument between the teen and their parents.
Growing up entails a certain amount of defiance of parental authority. As adolescents, we
are curious about the world around us. We don't want to be limited to our homes and schools.
We want to meet people who aren't in our immediate circle of friends; we want to hang out in
trendy hangout spots and be current among our peers. These desires also irritate our parents.
Parents would still forbid us from doing things that they thought were dangerous or wrong.
Teenage rebellion is often the result of this misalignment of expectations and values. Parents
hate teenage rebellion not only because it makes their job of providing structure, direction, and
supervision more difficult, but also because rebellion can lead to serious consequences.
Teenagers who are rebellious can act against their own self-interests, such as rejecting
beneficial activities or relationships that boost their self-esteem. It may lead to self-defeating and
self-destructive acts, such as in the documentary, which shows that many of the adolescents were
engaged in terrorist activities particularly in groups or organizations and injuring themselves
physically. Some of them engage in high-risk activities such as accepting dares, which can lead
to negative consequences. They sometimes allow instinct to take precedence over judgment,
which can be dangerous. Such defiance can jeopardize important relationships, such as pushing
loved ones away.
The documentary “Memoir of Teenage Rebellion” made me realize that teenagers rebel
against parents due to the desire to be loved. Besides, in the documentary, they revolt due to the
need to draw attention, forge an identity and be free to make their decisions. Many youths claim
that they do not hate their parents. However, they do not prefer the parents influencing their
decisions. In other instances, the teens associate with bad people as they try to find love and
attention. Eventually, the parents disapprove their company leading to conflicts. Parents should
understand that teenage is a sensitive stage of transition. As a result, they should pay attention to
their children and love them. Besides, they should look for appropriate methods of collecting the
teens whenever they are wrong and not reprimand them as they might turn rebellious.
