Abstract
The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) offers
educators, learners and educational administrators a variety of new
ICT tools that can be used in all aspects of educational activities for
evaluating students’ performance that can help teachers and other
educational stakeholders track and assess their students' as well
as their teachers’ abilities in the classroom. These technologies
can be used to facilitate effective communication among all
stakeholders and implement digital records of student performance
grading system and classification of the program passing criterial
systematically with minimum human interaction.

Preamble
What is an ICT?

ICT is a truncation that means "Information and Communication

Technologies". ICTs are an umbrella term that incorporates all
technologies for the control and communication of information.
Sukanta (2012) described ‘ICT as the varied collection of
technological gear and resources use for the purpose of
communication’. ICT is a worry with the limit, recovery, control,
transmission of computerized information. The ICTs can be
described as the processing and communication agencies and
highlights that differently bolster instructing, learning and scope of
exercises in education.

The Concepts
What is an assessment: Assessment is the planned procedure of
archiving and utilizing practical information on the information,
aptitudes, mentalities and convictions. By taking the evaluation,
instructors attempt to progress students learning.

ICT-based assessment: Subsequently, computer-based and ICT-

based assessment have been presented the learning procedure
has established. ICT-based assessment has improved the
measurement of student outcomes and made it imaginable for
them to acquire immediate and direct response. It is vital to make
a structure to evaluate learners, which take into justification the
learning goals and help learners to develop their skills, which will
4
be beneficial for the society for lasting.

TECHNIQUES OF CONDUCTING ICT –BASED ASSESSMENT

a) E-Portfolio – its type of evaluation, which can be used by educators, is the

portfolio. Butler and McMann (2006) define portfolios as being written and
integrated collections of students’ work showing effort, progress or a
degree of proficiency.
b) Project-Based Assessment - In evaluation, project is measured as a
substitute assessment for a constructivist classroom that provides students
opportunity to express what they have learned and help them to define
their own view of the topic (Tiene & Ingram, 2001).
c) Computer–Based Testing - According to Jonassen et al. (2009),
computer-based testing has been used to make the testing process simpler
for teachers and administrators and to facilitate faster scoring of students’
work by using scanned sheets and asking students to perform the test on a
computer.
d) Computerized Adaptive Testing - Advancement of ICT innovation and
psychometric speculations have set off an adjustment in the manner tests
are directed from ordinary paper and pencil tests to CAT (Leung, Chang,
and Hau, 2003).

ROLE OF ICT –BASED ASSESSMENT
Higher Institutions embraced ICT-based assessment to acquire creates
an exact and quicker strategy to survey students, as opposed to
conventional measure (paper-based).
i)Teacher: Paper-based test expends time from teacher to address each
sheet, however utilizing ICT-based assessment will spare the instructor
time for the instructors.
ii)Student: learners prefer toward ICT-based assessment since they
can have more control, agreeable interfaces and test as games and
reproductions, which look like learning condition and recreational
exercises as well as and quick and simple to utilize.
iii)Institution: Increasing the capacity of learners, which increment the
interest for a quick and exact strategy for evaluation. Likewise,
institutions need auspicious outcomes to orchestrate places for properly
qualified candidates.
iv)Educational Aims: ICT-based assessment supports instructive
objectives, by supporting high-request thinking aptitudes, for example,
scrutinizing, and reflection on psychological procedures and encourages
7
bunch work undertakings.
CHALLENGES OF USING ICT –BASED ASSESSMENT
Implementation of ICT-based assessment in higher education of
learning could face some obstacles. Diverse findings have examined
these obstacles and recommended measures
i.Students require preparing toward the beginning to be acquainted
with ICT-based assessment. An inexperienced learner with a PC can
find the technique very difficult.
ii.Accessibility of PC with internet enabled. As an answer to this
problem, the colleges ought to provide laboratories with complete
apparatus and internet access for those learners.
iii.Poor practical infrastructure development, especially in
underdeveloped nations.
iv.Assessing group project is an upsetting activity. SPARK (Self Peer
Assessment Resource Kit) is an academic open source project that
planned to help the assessment of effective teamwork, which has been
used in numerous schools in diverse settings.
v.Instructors need to be prepared and have confident for utilizing ICT-
8
based assessment methods.
CONCLUSION

It has been seen that ICT has a noteworthy task to carry out in
improving the standards in education henceforth its consideration
in the educational program is a positive development. Students
and educators in institutions ought to secure ICT information,
aptitudes, and mindfulness on the off chance that they are to be
effective in their prospects.

Computerized-Adaptive Testing (CAT) and Computer-Based

Testing (CBT) are dual instances of ICT use in assessment
exercise in which learners’ playout the test before a PC. It helps
learners to perform their evaluation assignments, for example, the
utilization of e-portfolios and undertaking better assessment. 9
