TEENAGE PREGNANCIES AFFECT THE WHOLE FAMILY

ASSIGNMENT 1: OUTLINE

Title of Essay: Teenage pregnancies negatively affect the whole family.

Introductory Paragraph
Thesis statement            :    Teenage pregnancies decrease educational achievement, results in
medical complications as well as leads to a lifetime of economic stress and limited opportunity.

Body Paragraph 1
Topic Sentence            :    Teenagers having pregnancies will decrease educational achievement.
    Supporting Detail 1        :  At the early stage of the pregnancy, a teenager may not realize of
her baby’s existence in her body.
    Detail 1            :    For an instance, morning sickness will hit a pregnant girl and make she
feels tired and weak that leads her to skip classes for days.
    Supporting Detail 2        :    Throughout the pregnancy, the pregnant girl will be unable to
come to school anymore until she gives birth or even drop out of her school to take care of the
child.
    Detail 2            :   A girl named Maddie Lambert was unable to come to school since she was
having a really bad morning sickness and her stomach was growing bigger each day and
therefore decided to take a rest from school until she gives birth.
Concluding Statement        :    This situation proved that a pregnancy at such an early age will
decrease one’s educational achievement as one may drop straight out of the school or take a rest
from it which will affect her education and left her behind from other peers.

Body Paragraph 2
Topic Sentence            :    Unexpected and unwelcome pregnancies may results in medical
complications, not only physically, but also mentally.
    Supporting Detail 1        :    A pregnant teenager can be in denial and may be full with guilt
and anger due to the sudden news.
    Detail 1            :    Based on a research study that was published in journal Pediatrics, it is
stated that a range age of 15 to 19 girls experienced postpartum depression twice as high as
women aged 25 and above.
    Supporting Detail 2. : As in for physically, it has a higher chance in affecting not only
the mother, but also the baby.
    Detail 2            :    The mother of the baby may experience high blood pressure due to lack of
prenatal care while the baby may suffer from deafness, blindness or low-birth weight.
Concluding Statement        :  Medical complications, whether it is through physical or mental
one, may occur by the teenage mother due to the sudden news of an upcoming baby.

Body Paragraph 3
Topic Sentence            :    It will lead to a lifetime of economic stress and limited opportunity.
    Supporting Detail 1        :    It is due to obviously, teenagers are still under parents' supervision
and responsibility.
    Detail 1            :    For an example, one’s parents struggles to support the whole family and
barely had enough but then there comes an unexpected pregnancy into the family.
    Supporting Detail 2        :    The parents of the baby, especially the mother will have limited
opportunity than what she had planned beforehand for her life.
    Detail 2            :   According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, approximately $10,000
are needed to support a baby for the first year.
Concluding Statement        :   Teenage pregnancies indeed limit one’s opportunity to discover
and experience life which then will cause financial problems for a lifetime.

Concluding Paragraph
Restatement of Thesis Statement    : In conclusion, I strongly believe that teenage pregnancies
undoubtedly effect educational performance, contribute to medical and financial problems and
limit life opportunities.
