You will watch a video clip from the movie, “The Call”. Please pay attention to every detail of
the video and understand how important it is to listen and how it works.

911 Officer : 911, where's your emergency?


Caller: A man is trying to break into my house. I'm all alone.
911 Officer: Okay, sweetheart, calm down.
Caller: My parents are out. They're at a movie. I can't reach them.
911 Officer: I understand that, sweetheart. Can you get out of the house?
Caller: No, he... He's out there.
911 Officer: It's okay, I've got your information. Just hold on, sweetheart.
Any units clear to handle hot prowl in progress? 23 Kinnard Street.
Police Patrol: P. R. is alone and hiding. 7-Adam-13. Show us handling code three
911 Officer: at Washington and Bank.
911 Officer: Officers are on their way, sweetheart, okay? What's your name? Leah.
Caller: Leah Templeton.
911 Officer: How old are you, Leah?
Caller: Oh, God. He broke the window. He's coming in the back.
911 Officer: Leah, listen to me. Find a room and lock yourself in it right now. Leah. Stay on the
line with me, sweetheart. Do not disconnect, okay? Leah?
Caller: I'm upstairs in my room. But the door, it won't lock. He's in the house.
911 Officer: 7-Adam-13, what's your ETA?
Police Patrol: Eight to 10.
Caller: I don't know where to hide.
911 Officer: Okay, Leah.
Caller: He's gonna find me. –
911 Officer: Here's what I need. Is there a window in the room?
Caller: Yes.
(The caller dropped her clothes on the ground so the intruder may think that she jumped out of
the window but she was just hiding under the bed.)
911 Officer: Okay. Leah. Don't speak. Stay quiet, okay? Officers are gonna be there any second.
Caller: I'm okay. I think it worked. He left. I think he's going back downstairs.
(Disconnected Call)
(911 Officer called again.)
911 Officer: Leah? Leah. Leah. You okay? It's okay.
Caller: I'm fine. He's gone. Okay, good. I think he's going back outside. Oh, God. I think he's
coming back. I think he heard the phone ring.
911 Officer: Shut it.
Caller: Please don't hurt me. Please don't hurt me.
(The man found the caller under the bed and grabbed her.)

911 Officer: Okay, listen, whoever this is, the police are on their way right this second. I suggest
you leave that house before you do anything you're gonna regret.
Man: It's already done.

Processing Questions:

1. What happened in the video?


 The video shows a process of exchanging information from the receiver an emergency
telephone number which is 911 and from the caller which is the sender who needs help.
In the video the caller was scared towards this unannounced stranger who crashed in to
her home. The video ended by the caller getting caught by the villain and it caused the
receiver which the 911 felt worried and anxious.

2. How important is listening in the video?


 From what the video have shown good listening is as important as talking. In the video
listening allows us to demonstrate well about the thoughts, feelings and behaviors of
the other person it’s like seeing the words through their eyes and it’s very important to
pay attention through listening.

3. How can communication help us to convey our current situation?


 Communication is vital when it comes to our daily life. Communication helps us to
express our thoughts that others can’t see nor read what it is. Through communication
we are able to share our feelings, our thoughts and our behavior and this will help us to
make the other person understand and able to digest it in what’s going on in our current
situation.

successfully received?

Being in a dangerous situation cause you anxiousness and you won’t be able to think openly.
I will calm myself, collect my thoughts and I will speak slowly and clearly about my current
situation in a detailed way, give them my information clearly, so that my message will reach
their understanding.
