2. Describe the attitudes of Mr Gilmer and Atticus to Tom Robinson and

Mayella. during the trial. What are the reactions by Dill and Scout to the
verdict? ( To Kill a Mockingbird )

Both Mr. Gilmer and Atticus are the defense lawyer in the trial. However, their
behavior and attitude are totally different. Atticus shows that he is a
professional lawyer through his attitudes by treating both Tom Robinson and
Mayella with respect and kindness. He not only be respect Tom Robinson
because Tom is his defendant, but also, he is not racism, and he believes that
Tom is innocent. Also, he shows his kindness with Mayella by calling her as
madam, and question respectfully. However, the attitude of Mr. Gilmer is
totally opposite to Atticus, he non-stop speaking to Tom Robinson rudely,
offending him by calling him “boy”. He also threatens and bully Tom on the
witness stand. His actions and behavior are unacceptable for a lot of people
especially is Dill and he start crying. Both Scout and Dill feel guilty and
sickened, they believe that people should be judged badly just because of their
race.
