Negative effects of mobile gaming to students

I. Introduction

This research strives to see the effects of online gaming. Throughout the years,
there has been this common controversy that gaming is ruining the mental and physical
health of students, others may seem to disagree because to them it is their source of
happiness. In this research, we'll differentiate between the pros and cons of online
gaming. To fully understand the context of this issue, we must first distinguish the
effects of online gaming and the time consumption being used by our students.
According to therecoveryvillage.com "Online video game addiction statistics show that
anywhere from 1–10% of gamers have compulsive addiction issues. Over 2 million
college students are addicted to gaming in the US, Whatley says. The time spent on
gaming takes away from time for study, which can result in devastating consequences.
“The average college student addicted to gaming spends 5–8 hours per day on gaming
and a minimum of 31 hours per week,” As being presented here that online gaming
gives out negative effects to a student's academic performances.

II.

In very prevalent cases that are caused by being addicted to online gaming is
"sleep deprivation, Loss of Productivity Distractions, Dangerous Distractions, and Out of
Control Spending" Gamers tend to stay late up night grinding their games which leads
to sleep deprivation, they feel the need to reach a certain goal in which they will do
everything it takes. Online gaming also leads to a loss of productivity as a study shows,
being too focused on online games takes its toll not only on academic performances but
also the sharpness of the mind of the student. Online games can also be a very
dangerous distractions, in cases like when a student is in class and would prefer to use
his/her gadget than to listen to lessons, that is an example of a dangerous distraction.
Lastly, out of control spending. Game makers usually have a price on their games or the
items within the games because that's how they earn through their games, statistically
speaking most students who are addicted in mobile gaming usually use their allowances
to buy stuff for their game, sometimes going to the extremes of skipping lunch to save
up.

III.

In conclusion, the negative impact of online games is much greater than it

seems, yet, no one seems to bat an eye when a student is gaming up all night. In this
era, people are too fixated on their gadgets, not only students but adults too.
Sometimes the addictions come from peer pressure and at times gaming results as an
escape from reality. Reasons like that are invalid though when one is addicted they do
not seem to care about anything else. Online gaming isn't necessarily bad, just need to
teach students better time management.
