Chapter 2

Due date 23rd March. 2021

Total Mark 30
Q1. The equation for the depth of flow is given by:

𝑄 0.67
ℎ = 0.48𝐹 [ ]
𝐿

Where,
h= liquid crest height, in
F= dimensionless correction factor
Q= liquid flow rate, gal/min,
L=weir length, in

(1) What are the units associated with 0.48? [4]

(2) Convert the equation above to SI system so that Q can be introduced into the equation in the
units of m3/s and L and h in meters [6]

Q2. Is the equation below dimensionally homogeneous? Why? Are its units consistent? why?
[2]

𝑎
(𝑃 + ) (𝑉 − 𝑏) = 𝑛𝑅𝑇
𝑉2
Where,
P is in lbf/ft2
V is in m3
T is in K
n is in mol
R is in m3. Pa/(mol.K)
a is in Pa.m6
b is in m3
