1. What motivates you to be an engineer(a)?

Compare your answers with

your fellow student in Group 3 presentation

Motivation is an important factor which encourages persons to give their best

performance and help in reaching enterprise goals. A strong positive motivation
will enable the increased output of employees but a negative motivation will
reduce their performance. A key element in personnel management is
motivation. According to Likert, “It is the core of management which shows that
every human being gives him a sense of worth in face-to face groups which are
most important to him….A supervisor should strive to treat individuals with
dignity and a recognition of their personal worth.” Motivation is a psychological
phenomena which generates within an individual. A person feels the lack of
certain needs, to satisfy which he feels working more. The need satisfying ego
motivates a person to do better than he normally does. When a manager wants to
get more work from his subordinates then he will have to motivate them for
improving their performance. They will either be offered incentive for more work,
or may be in the space of rewards, better reports, recognition etc., or he may
instill fear in them or use force for getting desired work. Negative or fear
motivation is based on force or fear. Fear causes employees to act in a certain
way. In case, they do not act accordingly then they may be punished with
demotions or lay-offs. The fear acts as a push mechanism. The employees do not
willingly co-operate, rather they want to avoid the punishment. In spite of the
drawbacks of negative motivation, this method is commonly used to achieve
desired results. There may be hardly any management which has not used
negative motivation at one or the other time. Extrinsic motivation, on the other
hand, is a type of motivation in which an individual is being motivated by external
desires. Now that we’ve covered these motivational types and provided you with
some examples, here are minor forms of motivation that are capable of making a
big impact in your life! Titles, positions, and roles throughout jobs and other areas
of our lives are very important to us. Those who are constantly driven to acquire
these positions and earn titles for themselves are typically dealing with
achievement-based motivation. Power-based motivation is a type of motivation
that energizes others to seek more control, typically through the use of positions
in employment or organizations. This type of motivation is especially helpful when
it comes to learning new skills and figuring out ways around obstacles that one is
faced with in different areas of life.Attitude motivation is a kind of motivation that
comes to those who intensely desire to change the way that they see the world
around them and the way that they see themselves.
I found that ,Engineers always try to change the world with their conceptual
thinking. We all know about the size of first computer which need a space equal
to a room. It is the effort of engineers who make it possible to reduce the size of
that big computer to a 10.1 inch laptop which you can easily carry anywhere. We
can reach anywhere in the word in a very less time because of the invention of
aeroplanes. With the help of the Google map we can easily travel from one place
to another without even knowing the way. There are many such examples which
make our life so simple. If you are an engineer then you must be ready to get
more chances improve the world.
By comparing with my classmates (group three). All the motivations they added
are same as my motivations. Actually these are the things what is influence me
and motivated me to be an enginner .

2. As a future Mechanical Engineer, what is your understanding of the

professional standards of the profession (a) and what are the ethical
responsibility?

 Education
Mechanical engineers typically need a bachelor’s degree in mechanical
engineering or mechanical engineering technology. Mechanical engineering
programs usually include courses in mathematics and life and physical sciences, as
well as engineering and design. Mechanical engineering technology programs
focus less on theory and more on the practical application of engineering
principles. They may emphasize internships and co-ops to prepare students for
work in industry.
What Mechanical Engineers Do All Day :

Mechanical engineers research, design, develop, build, and test mechanical and
thermal sensors and devices, including tools, engines, and machines.Mechanical
engineers design power-producing machines, such as electric generators, internal
combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines, as well as power-using
machines, such as refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.Like other engineers,
mechanical engineers use computers extensively. Mechanical engineers are
routinely responsible for the integration of sensors, controllers, and machinery.
Computer technology helps mechanical engineers create and analyze designs, run
simulations and test how a machine is likely to work, interact with connected
systems, and generate specifications for parts.
The following are examples of types of mechanical engineers:
Auto research engineers seek to improve the performance of cars. These
engineers work to improve traditional features of cars such as suspension, and
they also work on aerodynamics and new possible fuels.
Heating and cooling systems engineers work to create and maintain
environmental systems wherever temperatures and humidity must be kept within
certain limits. They develop such systems for airplanes, trains, cars, schools, and
even computer rooms.
Robotic engineers plan, build, and maintain robots. These engineers plan how
robots will use sensors for detecting things based on light or smell, and they
design how these sensors will fit into the designs of the robots.
Work Environment for Mechanical Engineering Technicians :
Mechanical engineering technicians held about 46,100 jobs in 2016. The largest
employers of mechanical engineering technicians were as follows:
Architectural, engineering, and related services 23%
Machinery manufacturing 13
Transportation equipment manufacturing 13
Computer and electronic product manufacturing 9
Scientific research and development services 7

 Professional:

professional is a member of a profession or any person who earns their

living from a specified professional activity. The term also describes the
standards of education and training that prepare members of the
profession with the particular knowledge and skills necessary to perform
their specific role within that profession. In addition, most professionals are
subject to strict codes of conduct, enshrining rigorous ethical and moral
obligations. Professional standards of practice and ethics for a particular
field are typically agreed upon and maintained through widely recognized
professional associations such as the IEEE. Some definitions of
"professional" limit this term to those professions that serve some
important aspect of public interest and the general good of society.

3. After our Course Part I study, do you have any new thoughts about
your future moral responsibilities as a professional Engineer?

Ethics in engineering is a study of characteristics of morals and conduct of

engineers as professionals and individuals as human beings. The moral and
practical significance of ethics vis-à-vis engineering can be related with the quality
of the decisions: with justice, with equity, with the consequences for all affected
by the decision, and with the personal and collective responsibilities which lie
beyond the contractual obligations into which engineers are often bound. Ethics
also guides the professional conduct of engineers. In essence, ethical values
ensure honest and open transactions in the profession, and that the professionals
are able to work without external pressure or biasedness. Ethics also ensures that
engineers are held accountable for their actions, so they recognize and accept the
personal comThe role of ethics, therefore, in engineering is imperative because
the integrity of the profession depends on it. The idea of not incorporating ethics
into engineering is too big a risk. Only ethical engineering practices can actualize
