Background
Track links and bushes are one of the most solicited parts of the undercarriage. A new generation of links has
been developed, based on field experience feedback. It will be used as a standard feature and will be available
from beginning of April 2008.
Modifications/Improvements
Link
To ensure a higher resistance of the track link, several modifications have been done:
- New design
The geometry of the link has been changed, increasing the section area from about 8,6%. This modification
permits to reduce the local stress concentration and improves pressfit between pin and link.
Old Version New Version
In order to increase the material homogeneity, an additional heat treatment, called normalizing, is conferred to
the link after forging.
To provide a better radial resistance, the outer diameter of the bush has been increased from 133 to 145mm,
allowing the strengthening of the wall thickness of 25%.
Old Version New Version
The depth of the heat treatment has also been increased by 14%.
Recommended action
*(R994B’s concerned are S/N 1001, 8001, 8002, 8630, 9570, 9776, 10562, 11395, 11620, 11699, 12768,
12769, 13093, which are equipped with smaller track rollers)
From now, order the new generation id. as shown in the table below:
Note that the conversion of a R994B from 49-link chains to 50-link chains is only possible when changing all
track rollers to latest version and the sprockets.
Recommendation:
In order to minimize abnormal wear, change systematically the sprocket during a track replacement
Note : Sprocket valid for this configuration is a 12 teeth, id. 9829554 (only suitable for bushes Ø 133mm)
From now, order the new generation id. as shown in the table below:
Important :
The use of this new track design with 145mm bushes requires a new sprocket: id. 10331950
Recommendation:
In order to minimize abnormal wear, change systematically the sprocket during a track replacement.
Note: Sprocket 13 teeth for bushes 133mm id.10016674 has to be changed into sprocket 13 teeth for bushes
145 mm id.10331950
