Episode 2: Lesson Objectives as my Guiding Star

My Tools
As I observe a class, I will use the Observation Sheet for a more focused observation.

Name of the Resource Teachers Observed: Ms. Kim Roxan Aying

Guiding Principles in Determining and Teaching Behavior/s which Prove/s

Formulating Learning Objectives Observance of the Guiding Principle

1. Begin with the end of mind. 1. Teacher Kim began her lesson by setting a
clear vision of the learning outcomes of her
lessons.

2. Share lesson objective with students. 2. Ms. Kim started her class by stating her
lesson objective for today’s lesson. She
discusses and explained about “Mga Uri ng
Anyong Tubig”. She also engaged her students
by identifying what bodies of water was
shown in the picture and by asking them
whether they saw or visited that particular
bodies of water. It is beneficial because
learners are the primary priority of her lesson
objective.

3. Lesson objectives must be in the 2 or 3 3. Based on my observation, teacher Kim was

domains – cognitive, skill and affective or not only focused on the type and definition of
cognitive and affective or skill and affective. the different bodies of water (cognitive), but
also encourages her learners to share their
feelings, experiences, and shows some values
or importance (affective). The lesson
objectives were also SMART. It was
measurable and attainable as proven by the
students’ comprehension on the topic. Result-
oriented since the learners identified the
different bodies of water and the subject was

fit and lasted within the given time.

4. Work on significant and relevant lesson 4. Ms. Kim ensures that her lesson topic
objectives. connects with her objectives. She also gives
relevant examples that her learners can relate
to.

5. Lesson objectives must lead to the 5. Teacher Kim not just gave her learners a
development of critical and creative thinking. written task but also asked some question
orally. Through this, learners can develop
critical and creative thinking.

1. After observing your Resource Teacher teaches, write down what you think was/were her
lesson objective.
 What I think her lesson objectives are;
Sa pagtatapos ng aralin, ang mga mag-aaral ay inaasahang:
 makikilala ang ibat-ibang anyong tubig ng bansa;
 malaman ang pagkakaiba ng mga anyong tubig sa pamamagitan ng mga
larawan; at
 aktibong nakikilahoko sa mga gawain.

2. Ask permission from your Resource Teacher for you to copy her lesson objective for the
day’s lesson. Copy it here then compare it with your answer in # 2. Are they same?
Different?

 The teachers lesson objectives:

Sa pagtatapos ng aralin, ang mga mag-aaral ay inaasahang:

 makikilala at mailalarawan ang ibat-ibang anyong tubig ng bansa;

Episode 2: Lesson Objectives as my Guiding Star

My Analysis
1. If answer in # 3 above is different, what is your conclusion regarding written lesson
objective and actual lesson development? Are lesson objectives in the lesson plan always
followed? Do they really serve as guiding star?
 They do serve as guiding star since it guides the teacher on what she/he should
accomplished at the end of her lesson but there are times where it goes beyond
what is written in the lesson. Nevertheless, as long as you achieved those
objectives then everything will fall into places.

2. Why did you find it easy/difficult to write down the Resource Teacher’s lesson objective
for the day? Did she mention it in the beginning of his/her lesson?
 Yes, she mentioned it at the very beginning thats why it was easy for me to write
it down.

3. Did you find the lesson objective SMART? Why or why not?
 Yes, I find the lesson objective SMART. Right in the beginning, the resource
teacher presented the learning objectives which aligned to her lesson presentation.
The activities and subject matter content are coordinate to the intended learning
outcomes. All of her teaching strategies and other aspects are interrelated and
interconnected. Endpoints and control points are integrated into the goal.

4. Was the lesson objective in the cognitive or psychomotor or affective domain? Or was it
in the two or three domains? Support your answer.
 The lesson objectives are in both cognitive and affective domain. Her lesson
obejctives encourages her learners to ponder and analyze the topic being
presented and also apply their learnings in the real life situations.

My Reflections
Any lessons learned or insights gained from your observation focused on lesson objectives?
Write them down here. Are lesson objectives truly the guiding star in the development of a
lesson? Or are lesson objectives sometimes forgotten as the lesson develops?
 Lesson objective serve as guiding stars in the sense that the development of the lesson
was guided by the teacher’s lesson objective/intended outcomes. All of the lessons being
presented and the educational learning activities must align to the learning outcomes
being set by the teacher. Through this observation, I learned how significant it is to set the

learning objectives clear to the learners. Learners must know what they are learning and
the reason why are doing it. They need to see the point of the objectives in a bigger
picture, and the big overall goal. For that to happen, you must set the goals SMART and
appropriate in every topic. The knowledge, skills and attitudes are well developed if you
set the objectives right.

My Portfolio

My researched quotations that state the significant of goals and objectives

“Objectives are not fate; they are direction. They are not commands; they are
commitments. They do not determine the future; they are a means to mobilize
resources and energies of the business for the making of the future.”
