Introduction
A teacher as a professional will always be found in a school setting. There will be no school
without the teacher because a teacher’s official working place is a school. A school is an institution where
learning occurs under the guidance of a professional called the teacher.
You will also find yourself in one of these schools when you become a full pledge teacher.
How does a teacher operate or function in a school setting? How will a teacher manage the
physical as well as the psychological environment in the school?

My Target
 Description of a typical school day of a teacher.
 Enduring understanding of the teacher’s role in creating a conducive learning environment in
school.

My Observations
At the time you are in school, what significant observations have you made?

Areas of Focus for Observation in My Observations

the School Setting

Physical Setting

1. Classroom Arrangement  Desks are lined in neat rows and facing the blackboard.
 Learning room is organized.

2. Bulletin Display  It is colorful and informative.

3. School Playground  Not enough playing facilities.

4. Learning Resource Center  Organized learning room.

 It has a quiet learning center.

Socio-Psychological Setting

1. Class Routines  Their subject is changing in a specific period of time, like

from Araling Panlipunan with 1 hour of time to MAPEH
with an hour too.
2. Teacher Activities  Keeping track of students as they exploring the day.
 Move from one classroom to another in order to approach
his students and teach his subject field.
3. Learner Activities  Their subject is changing in a specific period of time. They
follow a certain schedule made by the school personnels.

4. Co-curricular Activities  Some of these activities are sports, music and dance, art,
parades, clubs and others.

5. Extra-curricular Activities  Some of these activities are the leadership training,
Physical development activities, aesthetic and cultural
development activities and social welfare activities.

My Reflections
Based on the teacher’s program, your observations and interviews, would you now see teaching
to be full time job? Why? Why not?

Teaching profession is more than a full-time job. Being a teacher is not only expected to be in her
classroom, before, during, and after school hours, but time must be spent at home for grading papers and
preparing lessons for the class. An educator is not a just a “just” but putting most of your time of the day.
However, despite of all these multi-task that a teacher needs to do, I am fully challenged to do it someday.

How do you feel about the teacher’s workplace? Are the conditions healthy for the welfare of the
learners and teachers?

Teacher’s workplace area is important and essential. Teachers need a place to plan, write
education programs and keep records. As I observe in the classroom, the teacher’s work area is fairly
small. The teacher’s desk and chair, a bookshelf or cabinet, and a filing cabinet are usually sufficient
furnishings. It is good for the welfare of the learners and teachers.

Do you find the relationships of the teacher and the learners pleasant? Explain your answer.

Based on my observation, the relationships of the teacher and the learners are enjoyable and
pleasurable. The climate of the classroom is interactive. I saw how the teacher and the learner enjoying
the learning activities.

My Affirmed Concepts

What previous learning or concepts that you have gained in your professional education course
are affirmed by this learning episode? Give at least three by completing the sentences below

My previous learning in the content course that were confirmed by this learning episode is the
following:

1. That it is needed to arrange the room so that you can make eye contact with every student and
reach each student with ease.
2. That the physical structure of a classroom is a critical variable in effecting student morale and
learning. Students' involvement in the process of creating their environment can empower them,
develop them and increase motivation on their learning activity.
3. That the classroom environment should be nurturing, supportive and successful for all students.
To help make this true for students, teachers may need to make various adaptations to the
classroom environment.

My Future Application
How can I improve the school setting that I have observed when I become a teacher?

1. Classroom arrangement
 When I will become a teacher, I want to make a classroom a quiet reading corner, a
music area where students can play soft music while completing work, a
discussion/conversation center, a large table for cooperative projects, spaces for wet or
messy projects, multimedia spaces, learning centers or stations, and individual work
areas.

2. Bulletin Board display

 I will use bright colors, different patterns, and photography to emphasize essential
information. I will create a bright welcome board that incorporates every student’s name
and makes them feel a part of the classroom. I will display posters of the classroom rules,
rewards, and consequences to reinforce instructional goals.

3. School playground
 I will design permanent playground activities that help make activity time more positive
and productive to the students learning.

4. Classroom routines
 Students move through many activities during the course of a typical day, from reading
time to learning time, from in-class work to specials outside the classroom. With
predictable routines in place, students can move smoothly from one activity to the next
without losing learning time. The teachers in this section share some clever ideas for
signaling transition times and keeping track of students as they leave the classroom for
various reasons during the day.

5. Teacher activities
 I will be keeping track of my students as they exploring the day. I will be guiding them to
what they want them to be. I will make sure that there is learning to be injected to my
students.

6. Co-curricular activities
 As a future teacher, I should have to perform and executing the co-curricular activities. I
will guide them to do this activity which suites their ability. Being a teacher, I should take
the responsibility how activities should proceed further.

7. Extra-curricular activities
 As a future teacher, I should have to perform multi-dimensional functions in organizing
and executing extra-curricular activities. It is also the school, which play pivotal role in
conducting extra-curricular activities. It is the teacher or the school who finally should
take the responsibility how activities should proceed further.
