SUMMARY ON LECTURE BY VAIDEHI MA’AM

HISTORY : The Venice Biennale has been for over 120 years one of the most
prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Established in 1895, the Biennale
has an attendance today of over 500,000 visitors at the Art Exhibition. The
history of the La Biennale di Venezia dates back from 1895, when the first
International Art Exhibition was organized. In the 1930s new festivals were
born: Music, Cinema, and Theatre In 1980 the first International Architecture
Exhibition took place, and in 1999 Dance made its debut at La Biennale.
Elements of Architecture looks under a microscope at the fundamentals
of our buildings, used by any architect, anywhere, anytime: the floor, the wall,
the ceiling, the roof, the door, the window, the façade, the balcony, the corridor,
the fireplace, the toilet, the stair, the escalator, the elevator, the ramp. ... It
brings together ancient, past, current, and future versions of the elements in
rooms that are each dedicated to a single element. To create diverse
experiences, we have recreated a number of very different environments –
archive, museum, factory, laboratory, mock-up, simulation.
Venice Biennale, Italian international art exhibition featuring
architecture, visual arts, cinema, dance, music, and theatre that is held in the
Castello district of venice every two years during the summer.
The first biennale was opened on April 30, 1895 by the Italian King And Queen,
and seen by 224000 visitors. The event became increasingly international in first
decade. By 1914, 7 pavilion had been established. In 1930 the biennale was
transformed into an autonomous board. This brought on a restructuring, an
associated financial boost, as well as a new president. During World War II, the
activities of the Biennale were interrupted. It resumed in 1948 with a major
exhibition of a recapitulatory nature. In 1972, for the first time, a theme was
adopted by the Biennale, called "Opera o comportament" ("Work or
Behaviour"). In 1980 the Architecture section of the Biennale was set up. The
51st edition of the Biennale opened in June 2005, curated, for the first time by
two women. The 2017 Biennale, titled Viva Arte Viva, was directed by French
curator Christine Macel who called it an "exhibition inspired by humanism“.

CONCLUSION :
- According to me, the Biennale have become a platform/medium to
showcase contemporary art.
- So it is good to establish more Biennale all over the world
