6. A room 24.2 m long and 18.4 m wide is to be paved by a square marble tile each of
side 80 cm. How many such marble tiles will be required?

Solution: ROOM SQUARE MARBLE TILE

Length of a room = 24.2 m = 2,420 cm Side of the square tile = 80 cm

Breadth of the room = 18.4 m = 1,840 cm

Area of the room Area of the square marble tile

= Length x Breadth = side x side
= 2420 cm x 1840 cm = 80 cm x 80 cm
= 44,52,800 sq cm = 6,400 sq cm

Area of the room= 44,52,800 sq cm Area of the marble tile= 6,400 sq cm

6 9 5.75
No. of marble tiles required = Area of room ÷ Area of marble tile 64 4 4 5 2 8
= 4452800 sq cm ÷ 6400 sq cm
= 695.75
= 696 tiles Complete
