•  LEGISLATION  in  the  ACT  that  protects  the  
environment  from  pollu5on  and  its  effects.    
This  legisla5on  is  the  ACT.    The  Act  provides  
the  regulatory  framework  to  help  reduce  and  
eliminate  the  discharge  of  pollutants  into  the  
air,  land  and  water.

•  In   order   to   cope   with   the   environmental   problems,   the  
Government   of   Malaysia   has   passed   some   important  
environmental   laws   and   policies   such   as   the   Environment  
Quality   Act   1974   and   its   Regula5ons   1989,   the  
Environmental   Quality   Order   1989,   the   Protec5on   of  
Wildlife   Act,   the   Na5onal   Forestry   Act   1984,   the   Fisheries  
Act   1985,   the   Na5onal   Parks   Act   1980,   the   Interna5onal  
Environmental   Laws   etc.   In   addi5on   to   that,   the   Civil   Law  
Act   1972,   the   Principles   of   the   English   Laws,   the   Federal  
Law,   Shariah   Laws,   the   Adat   Temenggung   (Malay  
Customary   Laws)   with   some   interna5onal   environmental  
obliga5ons   etc;   have   also   been   implemented   in   order   to  
aVain   sustainable   environment   and   development   in   the  
country.  (Mohammad  et  al.,  2011)

Worsening   water   pollu5on   caused   Malaysia   in   1974   enacted   its   first  
by   the   three   industries   of   5n   f r a m e w o r k   e n v i r o n m e n t a l  
mining,   natural   rubber,   and   palm   legisla5on   in   the   form   of   the  
oil  in  the  late  1960s     Environmental  Quality  Act  1974
