Remarks:
1) Lead Acid Battery If vessel have lead acid type battery (wet cell type) then monthly SP.GR. And voltage log to be filled up on separate sheet. Sp.Gravity should be more than the

1.220 in all kind of weather area. Always filled up with distilled water and not to filled up with ships water or rain water.

2) Sealed Maintenance Battery To know the condition of this battery, load test of battery is more important. Load Test should be carried out every six month. As per load (Consumption) and

capacity of battery (Ah) voltage should not drop drastically. If the voltages drops rapidly then battery need to be replaced. Renewal time for these batteries

will be every 3 years + 3 months grace period.

3) GMDSS Battery Battery to be replaced every 3 years from date installed on board. Load test to be carried out every 6 months and Charts/Record to be posted near GMDSS

console. Appropriate record to be entered in GMDSS log book.

As per the SOLAS requirement GMDSS console consist of following equipment and DV 24 volt should be fed from dedicated Radio battery only.

Satcom-C Transceiver/Monitor/Printer, MF/HF Transceiver/Monitor/Printer, VHF and VHF DSC 2 Nos, DGPS and GPS or two DGPS, AIS, Console Light. As per

some flag state requirement NAVTEX also part of the GMDSS equipment (Means back up DC 24 V should be fed from the GMDSS battery. Load test should be

carry out for 12 hours with all above mentioned equipment on load and voltage should not drop down 22.8 volts. If voltage drops down less than 22.8 volts

then batteries are week or under Ah rated.

4) SART Battery Follow the maker's expiry date, otherwise 4 years from date of manufacture of battery.

5) EPIRB / GMDSS Survival Radio Battery / SSAS Battery / VDR UPS MOB lights = Follow the maker's expiry date and as per manual.
6) Other Batteries Some system PCB and PLC has internal battery (Small Button type battery), Which need to be replaced as per the maker's recommendation

(Please refer system maker's manual).

7) Load Test Before carry out the load test of battery, Please make sure that concern equipment supply is fed from various sources which need to be switched off. For example

GMDSS console equipment are fed from main 220 volt supply, emergency 220 volt supply, which need to be switched-off to take over dedicated supply. Also

make sure that charger is switched-off and each battery pack has dedicated battery charger, that also need to check frequently. Normally all battery charger are

auto regulated type. Some times as per the battery charging it is not auto regulated and charging battery on high rate and that will damage the battery and

reducing the life.

9) Routine Checks Please check battery body temperature, Should be slightly more than the ambient temperature. If it too hot then something wrong with battery or battery on high

charge continuously. Check buckling effect of battery. Check the loose terminal and keep clear from white/salt deposits. Apply petroleum jelly on terminals.

(Avoid using grease on terminals).

10) Write "NA"if not applicable.
