REFLECTION
1. What is the importance of Biblical Preaching
 Biblical Preaching is important for these affects not just the church organization but it
also includes the whole World. For in the first few minuets of the video, he introduces unto us
the most strategic place for you to make changes in the world is no other than in the Pulpit. The
question will be why? And how? First, we need to understand the importance of the pulpit
ministry. Pulpit ministry is the act of sharing the Word of God in the Church. Which means we
are talking about handling the Word of God and sharing it to the People. To answer why is the
Pulpit is the most strategic place, it is not because of the preacher but to put it plainly, it is
because we are talking about The Word of God.
As you can see the Word of God is the main reason why it is the most strategic place for
you to make a difference from the world, for The Word of God changes everything. For me to
say, it can change everyone. And here comes the question how? For when the Word of God is
being shared in the Pulpit and if it was taken seriously by the congregation or by the hearers it
shall affects their life making them a different person, which makes them a better person (it is not
because of the preacher but it is all about the Word of God). Then in the places where they live,
fruit shall be seen in their life as they respond to what they have received or heard. Then, when
they apply it in their life, it shall make changes to their society. Taken to that example, imagine
that when all people start applying the Word of God which they have heard in the pulpit, what a
wonderful sight it is to take the World is being affected just because of the Word of God that the
people receive in the Church. So, it all started in the pulpit. For this is where the word of God is
typically is shared or heard.
That’s why in the video he gives the importance of Biblical preaching. For what you are
sharing is correct then, expect changes shall come to the church (not the building but the people),
and when the church changes, the World will change. So, we must not take lightly the pulpit
ministry that’s why biblical preaching is important for this affects the Whole World.
Putting aside the pulpit ministry, he also tells us that we need to prepare well our
manuscript for, the expositors must always remember, that when he starts to study the passage, it
must end in the pulpit.
2. What are the preparation we need to do in making Biblical Preaching?
In his outline, he gave us 5 Phases (stages) of preparations in making a biblical
preaching. Well to begin with he only mentions the overview of the Five phases in making
Biblical Preaching which is:
Preparation Phase
Observation Phase
Interpretation Phase
Documenting Phase
Evaluation Phase
With the given time of the video, he only tackles the preparation phase and give importance to it.
Even though, he still gives a lot of effective information for me, I guess, that can help me to
prepare myself for Biblical Preaching.
In his introduction in the Stage one or Phase one, he started with a simple statement but
leaves a strong impression saying, “Before the Expositors prepare his Sermon, God first must
prepare him.” Giving that statement it means a lot for me. For God needs to handle you first
before you handle the congregation. God needs you to experience his Words before you share it
to others. You need to let God prepare you so that you can prepare your sermon.
Moving forward, he also gives some illustration also for us to understand it more clearly,
like:
Shallow spirituality equals shallow ministry
The Water and its Pipe
o The water symbolizes the Word of God while the Pipe symbolizes the
expositors (preacher)
o If the Pipe is rust, the Word of God which is suppose to be clean it shall be
affected because of the pipe.
Moving to the Body, (though he only focuses on one phase, there are still a lot of things to
consider)
A. we must be Born Again.
 He nearly stated this phrase for almost twenty times. For it may sad to say, but the
truth is many people are in the ministry yet they are not been Born again. He wanted us to
make sure that we are born again. Before we handle the Word of God, we must first be
Born again and we must fully aware and sure to ourselves that we are born again.
B. The Call for Gospel Ministry
 we must be sure to ourselves that we are called to share the Word of God. for such a
calling, there is a gift. He also gives us the illustration that when God called you to Fly,
He shall give you Wings. If he called you to share the Word of God, he shall give you
gifts.
He also shares unto us the signs or marks of people who are called for preaching the
Word of God.
Compulsion  there is an intense, irresistible, raging within you that you can’t
not explain whenever the Word of God is dealing you personally and you want it
to share also to others.
Competency (confidence)
Conversion
Confirmation
-- he added, Christ-likeness (he inserted
C. Holy Consecrated
For God desire a pure and clean vessel. In our preparation in making the message,
we must first desire to let God consecrate you first. For only when the vessel is ready,
God shall use him. Though there are a lot of ways of God for us to be consecrated but
surely, it is always through his Word which is the Bible. He taught us that we must
always humble down ourselves in prayer to let God Consecrate us.
D. Dedication
 We must be fully dedicated to our calling. He also mentioned the saying, “I Believe
therefor, I spoke” many times. Which we can see that we must first have a strong
dedication in our calling to enable us to have the confidence in speaking the Word of
God. For out of our belief comes dedication and dedication produces conviction.
He Concluded his first point which is the Preparation Phase by saying, Biblical Preaching is not
preaching about the Bible but preaching the Bible. Well through out his sermon he gives many
simple statements yet powerful, though not all are mentioned but there is one more statement that
keep me thinking of it;
“Preaching goes beyond Teaching yet Preaching is in the shoulder of Teaching”

Jonah 3:1-10
1. Identity of the Preacher
 The Identity of Jonah in this passage, he stands as a prophet. He didn’t give attention
to its surrounding though it is wicked land, he still shares the Message of God Boldly and Clearly
as he must. He even went to the city itself where the King’s palace is placed to proclaim the
message of the Lord in the land of Nineveh. His identity was clear to the people that even the
king believes him and fast. It might look simple but behind of it there’s a story. This goes back to
the previous chapters as his first calling in chapter one and also his first respond.
Well, the story goes like this, he did not obey his first calling leading Jonah to be
swallowed by a great fish. What I have understand in this story, I have understood before God
will use you, He must first deal and prepare you. As a preacher (prophet) as one who carries his
Word. You must encounter him and experience him first. For only when we experience God, our
identity will not like be the same Jonah who is afraid but will have the courage to share his
Words no matter how scarry and dangerous is the place.
2. What is the message of the Preacher
 His message was the direct Word of God and though it is not shown how God wants
him to say it to the people. He still pronounces the judgment of God as God tells him in chapter
one.
“Forty Days from now Nineveh will be Destroyed!” Jonah 3:4 (NLT)
For me maybe one of the reasons why Jonah is afraid to go to the Nineveh is because he is
carrying the Judgement of God. imagine yourselves going in a city and you are going to proclaim
not good news but a devastating one. Telling the people that this place will be ruined or be
destroy, imagine how people will respond to you. Will they be glad? of course it is the otherwise.
Second reason is because the land is full of wicked people making him fear his situation
assuming already that his life will be in danger. Nevertheless, his first respond was reverse to
God’s command but he didn’t know that God already plan everything. For Jonah must encounter
God so that his second respond will lead him to obedience
3. What is his method
I am not sure to say in here but as for my own reflection, as preacher (the one who
carries the Message of God) we must deliver it to the people, even though it is a rebuke or it is a
message of Judgement of God, we must deliver it clearly as we should. For as we can see there is
power in the message and not in the preacher. For if is the really the Word of God, the people
will respond not because of the preacher but because of the Word of God he is delivering. For
power does not comes from the preacher but comes from message of God.
