Robots in our life.

Good evening. My name’s Elizaveta. I’m a student of the BMSTU. The subject of my talk is
robots in our lives. My presentation will last for about five minutes. I’d be glad to answer any
questions at the end of my talk.
The subject can be looked at under the following headings:
1. Introduction.
2. History of the origin of robots.
3. Classification of robots
4. The project FEDOR
5. Conclusion
1. Introduction.
Robots are human mechanical assistants that can perform operations according to their
program and respond to the environment.
Since its inception, the works have gone from primitive mechanisms to complex devices, in
many ways surpassing the capabilities of human. In the coming decades, more and more
advanced robots will become indispensable assistants to people and will be able to take over
the provision of most of the needs of civilization.

2. Now let’s turn to history of the origin of robots.

Historians claim that the first creator of robots was the mathematician Archytas of Tarentum.
He built a wooden steam pigeon that could travel a distance of 200 meters.This was between
400 and 350 BC.
The first drawing of a humanoid robot was made by Leonardo da Vinci around 1495.
The first functioning humanoid robot was created by the French inventor Jacques de
Vaucanson in 1737. He was a life-size man capable of playing the flute. The flutist had 12
pieces in his repertoire.
The most famous invention of Jacques de Vaucanson is the digestive ducks, created by him in
1739. These robots consisted of about 400 parts, and were able to flap their wings, drink
water and peck grain.
The first android robot(B2M) in our country appeared back in 1936. It was created by
sixteen-year-old Vadim Matskevich. The robot was able to raise its arms above the
horizontal.
3. I’d like now to consider classification of robots.
Industrial robots-involved in the production process of manufacturing products and parts.
Household robots-designed to facilitate human life.
Medical robots-designed to work in the medical industry, facilitating the work of doctors and
helping to eliminate the human factor.

Military robots-designed for combat operations and defense of various countries of the world.
These include various anti-aircraft systems, sappers, and military drones.
Robot scientists. Robot scientists can be attributed to the robots that were used to explore the
ventilation shafts of the Great Pyramid of Cheops.
4. Now I would like to tell you about an interesting project in my opinion, FEDOR.
The official name of the project is FEDOR (Final Experimental Demonstration Object
Research). The working title in the beginning was "Avatar". The name of the project was
given by Dmitry Rogozin. This project is being implemented by order of the Ministry of
Emergency Situations of Russia. Work on the creation of the system began in 2014 and
continues to this day. Physically, the development center is located in Magnitogorsk. The
developers spent about 300 million rubles, but this is not the full amount.
Specifications:
● Height-180 cm;
● weight — about 160 kg;
● power — 13.5 kW (20 horsepower);
● the robot consists of 15 thousand parts;
● the software is a Linux-based operating system;
● work in offline mode — 1 hour.
The first prototypes of FEDOR worked exclusively under the control of the operator. Now it
has become known that FEDOR has already learned to act autonomously. At the moment, he
is able to open the door, use a drill, shoot a gun, drive a car and ATV in offline mode.
In the future, the developers plan to train the robot to independently determine the task. In
addition, the robot can also operate in copying mode. In this case, the operator puts on an
exoskeleton that repeats the structural features of FEDOR, and the robot copies the operator's
movements.
The main scope of its application is saving lives. It will work in areas and buildings with
chemical and radiation contamination.
It can also be good in sapper work, in medicine (even now the robot can make injections and
apply splints). Unfortunately, fine work is performed only under the control of the operator.
In 2021, FEDOR will be sent on a flight on the “Federation” spacecraft.
5. So to summarize.
Now the age of robots is approaching. They are created to help people with particularly
dangerous work and daily work. Indeed, they are capable of many things. They can perform
any operations according to the program installed in them. In my opinion, the future of
scientific progress is impossible without them.
