ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Success of any project depends largely on the
encouragement and guidelines of many others. We
take this sincere opportunity to express our
gratitude to the people who have been
instrumental in
the successful completion of this project work. We
would like to show our greatest appreciation
to Department of Electronics and Communication
Engineering, Techno International
Newtown. We always feel motivated and
encouraged every time by his valuable advice
and
constant inspiration; without his encouragement
and guidance this project would not have
materialized. The guidance and support received
from all the members and who are contributing to
this project, was vital for the success of this project.
INTRODUCTION
Traffic signals are used to control the flow of vehicles. In the recent years, the need

of transportation has gain immense importance for logistics as well as for common

human. This has given rise to the number of vehicles on the road. Due to this

reason, traffic jams and road accidents are a common sight in any busy city.

Traffic Signals provide an easy, cheap, automatic and justified solution to the

road points where the vehicles may turn to other directions e.g. roundabouts,

culverts, busy walk throughs etc.

BASIC IDEA

The project we have chosen is an 8-lane traffic controller. The basic

idea behind the design is to avoid the collision of vehicles by providing

appropriate signals to different directions for a limited time slot, after which the

next waiting drivers will be given same treatment. In This way a cycle will be established which
will control the traffic.
Advantages:-

1) Microcontrollers used are cheap, so cost-effective.

Batteries are used in transmitter and receiver so consume less power.
Installation is easy.
2) System has high speed and high precision. FPGA is economically
affordable. Flexible system.
3) Reduced waiting time at traffic. Human intervention is eliminated.
System automatically switches to normal system when intelligent
system not required. Guaranteed flow of traffic in emergency
situation
Disadvantages :-
1)Receiver and transmitter must be in direct line of sight of each
other so reduces
flexibility. High intensity lights cause interference with infrared.
2) Complex system. Cost increases due to use of sensors. Constant
connectivity to
database is required.
3) Deployment of photoelectric sensor . cost of maintainance
is high since deployed in rugged external conditions .priority
of every road must be set in advance. It is impossible to
determine priority in advance.
Components required
1. Ic 555
2. USB cables
3. 1 k ohm Resistor ×4
4. 470 ohm resistor ×4

Description of component:
TIMER
In our project we used 555 Timer IC as the Timer
555 IC
INTRODUCTION

The 555 timer IC is an amazingly simple yet versatile device. It has been around
now for many years and has been reworked into a number of different
technologies. The two primary versions today are the original bipolar design and
the more recent CMOS equivalent. These differences primarily affect the amount
of power they require and their maximum frequency of operation.
The 555 Timer is a TTL digital logic circuit that is used in the controller circuit to
produce a periodic square wave signal. The period and duty cycle of the square
wave signal are determined by the resistors and capacitors connected to the
timer.

CONCLUSION
This project is based on a very effective way of
optimizing traffic, with redefinition of threshold
values for a real time application. This works to
control traffic on four way roads according to traffic
control barricades . This proposed system will be able
to build a developed country with less traffic jams and
it will also help the emergency vehicle to reach in time
to the destination. So, this intelligent system will help
us to control traffic in more autonomous way.

Future Scopes :-
In this paper, a multi-modal smart traffic control system (STSC)
for the infrastructure in the smart city is proposed, which can be
widely applied for the intelligent transportation system in smart
city applications. The major components in the proposed STSC
include RSU controller, OBU,signal controller, and cloud
center. It supports various smart city ITS applications including
EVSP, TSP,есо- driving, ATSC, pre-time signal control, and
R2V message broadcasting. The RSU controller is the core of
this work, where we discuss in detail the system architecture,
middleware, peripheral hardware modules, and control
algorithms. The STSC system designed follows the urban traffic
control protocol V3.0 so that it is compatible with a traditional
traffic signal controller and can be fast and cost-effectively
deployed. A new traffic signal scheme isspecifically deployed.
