LOCAL STUDY ABOUT SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS IN THE PHILIPPINES

According to the study of (Mendoza et al., 2016) Socioeconomic status plays an important
role in education. Not having financial resources brought consequences for the students. In
study of (Villamor n.d) Her findings stated that, annual family income is a predictor of
academic performance. The outcome ascribe to parental involvement that may have had an
impact to students' academic performance. Her finding support that the presence or
absence of poverty has no bearing on a learners’ academic performance.

(Jabar et al., 2020) in his study he examined the influence of different socioeconomic
related variable to parental involvement such as membership in Conditional Cash Transfer
(CCT) Program or Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino program(4P's), monthly income, subjective
assessment of living condition, and others. His findings conclude that the level of involvement
varies according to the socioeconomic status of the family, with those family who have higher
incomes being more involved in their children's education. According to subject assessment of
one's living condition Parental Involvement appeared to be higher among parents who viewed
themselves as very poor to those who believe they are better off economically. This study also
found out that CCT (4ps) membership participants had higher parental Involvement than
nonparticipants member.

Agullana et al., 2017) Examine the relationship between senior high school students’
academic performance and their socioeconomic factors in candon national high school.
Findings of their study stated that family income, ethnic tribe, home residence, parents'
educational attainment, religion, home residence, and family size have significant correlation
with senior high school performance however, each factor has a different predicting value.
Meanwhile parents' occupation do not correlate at all. Conclusion of their study stated that the
students' parents' occupation do not have significance as long as their occupation provide them
with the enough financial income that will sustain the schooling of their children. Senior high
school students' parents based on their educational attainment they have on how they are going
to value the education or academic achievement of their children. Recommendation of their
study stated that regardless of education background parents shall have proper orientation on
the importance or value of education to their children so that their children can feel comfortable
or at ease knowing that their parents are supporting them in their schooling. Furthermore,
parents must also have to be well aware enough of their children's academic needs so they can
provide the necessary learning tools for their schooling. Moreover, the school, as a human
institution, can improve students’ academic performance by providing a proper educational
approach of teaching them regardless of their socioeconomic status.

(Villanueva et al,. 2020) study investigate about the relationship between socioeconomic
status (SES) and students’ academic performance during the lockdown period in the
Philippines. Their study found out that while it is indirect, socioeconomic factors such as
parental support and accesbility to resources both affected the students' electronic learning,
viewed by the lens of human capital theory by Gary Becker, the study demonstrated two ways a
family can invest so their child can have a better educational experience 1.) Through Parent
participation/ involvement and; 2.) Through financial support such as resources. In return, these
two factors will influence the child's academic performance.
