What next after repeal of Farm Laws?

Fortunately, Indian Agriculture and Indian Farmer, by and large, has not been
aversely affected by the impact of Covid 19 for last two years and could sustain
mainly due to non reduction of both crop production levels and prices of various
agricultural produce.

Last year, three farm laws which were introduced by government with an aim to
remove subsidies and price regulation of crops were withdrawn after a prolonged
protest by farm unions. It is needless to say government took the decision to
withdraw the laws due to severe opposition from farmers and its effect on ensuing
elections in five states especially in UP and Punjab.

Thus, farmers might have won temporary battle but they have many more
challenges in future like threat of removal of subsidy on crop production and
reduction MSP on many crops. WTO ( World Trade Organization) has pressure
from other member countries to regulate subsidies to as low as 5% and also reduce
MSP levels to facilitate free trade between different member countries.

Presently, Indian farmer gets subsidy equivalent to as high as 50% of production

cost. Other alarming issue faced by Indian farmer is that he is not assured of
minium income/price to many of his crops as he does not have other alternative
source of income unlike farmers from western countries.

Therefore, Indian policy makers would perceive the condition of Indian farmer
with different perspective based on indigenous situations and suitable laws or
regulations would be brought in to support his farming practices.

MANAGING NEMATODE

I
ndustrialization and
urbanization has created a
tremendous pressure on
available cultivable land posing a
massive challenge to the food
and nutritional requirements of
the ever-growing population.
Though India is self-reliant in
food grain production after the
advent of green revolution, the
increasing demand of
horticultural produce has to be
fulfilled to ensure the nutritional
security. This gap can be fulfilled
by adopting advanced
technologies as 'protected
cultivation' which ensures 3 to 5
times more productivity than
open fields and better quality.
Protected cultivation involves the
cultivation of different crops to nematodes. Crops such as vascular tissues, which are

plays an important role as a
condiment in the culinary preparation
of South Indian dishes. Curry leaf is
an important perennial tree
vegetable. Its leaves are used mainly
to improve the taste and flavour of
foods. Leaves are slightly pungent
and retain their flavour even after
drying. Ground curry leaf with mature
coconut kernel and spices forms an
excellent preserve. Curry leaves, an
inevitable part of spicing up dishes
are not a part of mere garnishing.
