Introduction:

Dhanuka Agritech Ltd has given one product to me for study purposes ie. Conika. As an
intern student, I have an opportunity to explore one location in allotted region in Bihar.
In Bihar state, I have given one district which is BiharSharif for which Villages are
found where Potato, chilli, Broad Bean, Cauliflower, Cape Gooseberries (Makok)
and green leafy vegetables are grown in different villages are identified for survey
purpose. This type of field exposure helps me to broad my skills how to talk to farmers,
dealers and distributers, what questions to ask and how to interact them nicely. It also
helps me to know Agri-input market closely.
During this internship, I engaged in one-to-one interactions with farmers, conducted on-
field demonstrations, and actively participated in retailer meetings. This hands-on
experience allowed me to delve into the core of agricultural marketing.

About Crops

Potato, the world's 4th largest food crop, thrives in India's diverse climates.
Winter months see production on the Indo-Gangetic plains, while higher
altitudes offer year-round harvests. Popular for its affordability and rich
nutrients (starch, vitamins, minerals), potato serves as a valuable energy source.
Beyond its role as a vegetable, potato finds use in industries like starch and
alcohol production, textiles, and even creating delicious dried forms like chips.

Field Preparation
Ploughing and Harrowing is done for field preparation. The field
preparation is done by initially watering to land for some moisture

In Bihar Sharif district, seed rates for potato • Insect Pests:
cultivation vary based on local terminology and In Bihar Sharif district, major insect pests affecting potato crops include
measurement units: Aphids, Thrips, Potato tuber moth, and whitefly. These pests cause damage
by sucking the leaves, leading to a condition locally known as 'SIKURA',
1. Katta Measurement: where the leaves curl, photosynthesis halts, and untreated crops may
eventually perish.
- One potato bag locally called 'Katta' weighs 50
kg. • Diseases:
- Seed rate: 75-80 katta/ha or 6-8 katta/bigha. The diseases commonly affecting potato crops in the district are:
- Equivalent to 35-40 quintals/ha. - Chechak (COMMON SCAB)
2. Packet Measurement: - Jhulsa (Blight): A highly severe problem affecting up to 80% of crops.
- In certain villages, one potato bag called 'Packet' For both diseases, systemic fungicides are utilized. Redomil, which contains
weighs 50 kg. Metalyxl-Mencozeb, is particularly effective against blight.
- Seed rate: 60-70 packet/ha or 6-7 packet/bigha. • Harvesting:
- Equivalent to 35-40 quintals/ha. The ideal harvesting time for potato crops is typically between 3-3.5 months
3. Additional Notes: after sowing, specifically from February 1st to February 20th. Late varieties
are harvested by the last week of February.
- 1 'Katta' or 1 'Packet' equals 50 kg.
- 1 'Bigha' equals 10 bigas. • Yield:

- The overall seed rate ranges remain the same: 35- In Bihar Sharif district, potato crop yields range between 40-50 katta/bigha
40 quintals/ha irrespective of the measurement unit or 2000-2500 kg/bigha, equivalent to 200-250 quintals per hectare.

Marketing Penetration Of Dhanuka Chemicals Like Conika.

 As I visited most of the dealer/ Distributer/ retailer shop, I found

hardly they talk about Dhanuka product i.e about Conika fungicide.
Most of the dealers/ distributors sell products of companies other than
Dhanuka.

 Since the products are newly introduced, I found conika product in

only 3-4 dealer shop. Even in Dhanuka dealer shop, they only keep
conika product. Dhanuka agritech Itd. should plan strategically so that
it can compete with other competitions since 70-80% of market is
covered by Other .( in terms of promotion, demonstration regular
meeting with farmers etc).
Activities

During Internship/Marketing Activities for Dhanuka: Engaging with

farmers, conducting on-field demonstrations, and participating in retailer
meetings were integral to my internship. These activities allowed me to
actively promote Dhanuka's products, gaining valuable insights into the
needs of our stakeholders.
My Learning from Activities/Achievements

 Through these interactions, I learned to tailor marketing strategies to the unique needs
of farmers and retailers. Achievements included successfully conveying the benefits of
Dhanuka's products, resulting in increased awareness and sales.
 Learning through this internship how to greet farmers and met him to promote of
Product and Conduct a meeting in village.
 Understand farmers need and their specific demand like package size of products and
price related concern and demo.
Finding
For Potato crop in Nalanda (Biharsharif) district:

 The major variety mostly used by farmers are K. Pukhraj, K. Jyoti.

 Local names of 50 kg bag is known as KATTA.

 Only Tractors are used for ploughing. No bullock carts are used.

 The most dangerous disease are early blight and black leg in Potato.

 The main weeds are Bathuwa(Chenopodium album), Gajra(Daucas carota) and Motha(Cyperus rotundus ).

 The market penetration of Dhanuka company products is good.

Suggestion
 The company can consider going for advertising in local print media for a period of 7 to 10 days before the
season starts. This is because the advertisement helps the farmer to increase their curiosity for purchasing
company's product.

 The company should go for more Point -Of-Purchase (POP) displays at the retail stores, with Banners,
Posters showing the company products and company logo.

 Incentivise the dealers in terms of profit margin based on sales volume. Many dealers doing business by
gaining profit margin from the agri-input products. If any company will give more profit margin in their
products to dealers then their chance of selling the products will increase.
Limitation of Project:

Glimpses of Internship
Conclusion
 The overall experience of internship in Dhanuka Agritech Ltd. was very good. Dhanuka Agritech Ltd.
provides me a great opportunity to look outside the close world and feel the enjoyment of fresh air. In
internship. I went to one district in Bihar, an unknown place to me where nobody knew me.I went to
taluks/blocks in districts, many villages, roaming here and there in 15-18 degree celsius temperature. In
many villages, I interacted with farmers, all of them being very supportive. The kind nature of farmers made
me feel very comfortable in the unknown place. They answered me all the questions which I asked them.
Some farmers were unhappy and tensed about the losses they incurred for last 2 years and easily shared their
problems.

 I also interacted with many dealers/distributers. They also supported me. When asked about different
chemicals kept in their shops, they explained me about their products without hesitating. They explained me
about different chemicals such as fungicides, insecticides, zyme, weedicides, nutrients etc.

 I enjoyed a lot while undergoing internship as it provided me a platform for ground level work which will
help me in future aspects in pursuing a career in agri-input company.
