Sample Problems
1. If a depth of liquid of 1m causes a pressure of 7 kPa, what is the specific gravity of the liquid? Ans. 0.714

Sample Problems
2. If the pressure 23m below a liquid is 338.445 kPa, determine its unit weight, mass density, and specific gravity.
Ans. 14.715 kN/m3, 1500 kg/m3, 1.5

3. Assuming specific weight of air to be constant at 12 N/m3, what is the approximate height of Mount Banahaw if
a mercury barometer at the base of the mountain reads 654 mm and at the same instant, another mercury
barometer at the top of the mountain reads 480 mm. Ans. 1934.53 m

Sample Problems
4. Piston A has a cross section of 1200 cm2 while that of Piston B is 950 cm2 with the latter higher than the piston
by 1.75m. If the intervening passages are filled with oil whose SG is 0.8, what is the difference in pressure
between A and B? Ans. 13.734 kPa

4. Piston A and Piston B are in equal height from the ground and that AA = 1200 cm2 and AB = 950 cm2. Now,
Piston B has 5 N of weight acting on it. Determine the weight on Piston A that Piston B can support.
