V. Learning Synchronous: Show the word plagiarism up on the screen. Give students 2 minutes to brainstorm everything they
Activities know about this word. This could be a small group activity or an individual one. But require written answers.
When time is up, ask for students to volunteer the ideas they have.
Then ask students:
o Based on your prior knowledge, how could we best define plagiarism?
o How do you know if you have plagiarized?
o What are the consequences of plagiarizing? Why are there consequences? What would happen if there were no
consequences?
Lead the discussion to the idea of citing sources as a means of avoiding plagiarism and ensuring that credit for
information is given where it is due.
Explain to your students that today they will learn how to use in-text citations to credit sources. Begin the video How to
Make In-Text Citations.
INSTRUCTION/DELIVERY
Have the students read the essay reviewing O. Henry’s stories and answer the comprehension questions afterward. This can
either be answered in a whole-class discussion, as pairs, or even written down as seatwork.
PRACTICE
a. Ask the students to form groups, where they will act out a “He Said, She Said” movie review on a popular movie being
shown at the time. Ask the students to present these in the class and pick the most effective one.
b. Guide Questions:
Do you usually read or watch reviews before or after watching a movie? Why or why not?
When it comes to judging something, should there be objective standards? Why or why not?
What is the value of these types of reviews?
Asynchronous: Groups are asked to document and write a restaurant review, complete with an interview with someone from
the said establishment and some food history. The students then post this on their Facebook page, where people can make
comments about their review.
