INTRODUCTION
On-the-Job training is very important not
only to teach us regarding the chosen career
but also to show the reality about working. This
will also guide them to be familiarized with the
equipment’s, materials and other things
needed that are part of the working area.it is
type of skills development program though
hands on experience. Aside from work I have
many learned in fort san Pedro to meet people
having different position in the ojt and on the
job training is a big help to me because we
learn a lot on how to communicate the people
to work and improve my skills and can boast my
confident.

Fort San Pedro

BRIEF HISTORY
Fort San Pedro is one of the oldest Spanish forts in
the Philippines. Work was started in May 8, 1565 with
Legaspi himself breaking the ground. The work
colonization had just begun and due to the hostility of
the natives the Spaniards where compelled to build a fort
most of the sporadic assaults at night time raids came
from the sea so Legaspi constructed the fort by the
shore. The name “San Pedro” was derived from Legaspi
flagship in which he sailed the Pacific Ocean in 1565
The following details of the fort location were taken
from a report submitted by Professor Marcelino Maceda:
The fort was triangular in shape with two sides facing the
sea were they fended with artillery and the third side
with a strong palisade made of wood. The fort served as
a nucleus of the first established settlement in the
Philippines
The three bastion were named La Conception (SW),
Ignacio de Loyola (SE), and San Miguel (NE). The
circumference is 1,248 feet. The side are of unequal
lengths and the one fronting the city is the main gate.
Total inside area is 2,025.6 sq.m. The walls are 20 feet
high 8 feet thick and the towers are 30 feet high from the

ground level. 14 cannons were mounted in there
emplacement most of which are still there today.
Little was known about the activity of the fort from
the time it was built until centuries later in 1739 when
the king of Spain, Philip II desire information on the
islands. Governor General tanon, who was Spanish ruler
of the island at the time made the following report:
“Furze San Pedro”... the fort is described us built of stone
mortar with teereplein where guns are mounted. The
fort contained the necessary buildings. The largest of
these was the “Cuerpo de Guardia”, where they
personnel manned the fort lived. Adjacent to it was a
“Viviende Del Teniente” which was living quarter of the
lieutenant of the fort.in between the aforementioned
buildings is a well. At one corner a touch to walls of the
bastions San Miguel was “Almazanes Del Polvora” where
the fort supply of arms and gunpowder from manila
where stored.
The victory of the Americans led by commodore George
Dewey at the battle of manila bay in 1898 marked the
end of the Spanish era. The fort was then surrender by
the Spaniards to the Cebuano rebels.
The Fort San Pedro became a part of the American
Warwick Barracks during the American regime. In letter
from 1937 to 1941 the barracks where converted into
school room where many Cebuano’s received their
formal education.

Reflection
My experience in Cebu city of fort san Pedro is and
unbelievable Journey. I experience a lot of hardships in
the beginning. I get to work under the pressure. I saw
conflicts in the office and there are times also that the
situation in the fort put my patience to test lucky I
survived these obstacles. I would be very disappointed I
need these obstacles to help me grow and be prepared
for my future career as a human resources practitioner. I
had a great time also in some events of the city I saw that
their cancel office mates is their second family which
makes me wish that to my future working place that it
would be like this or better.

Conclusion
Nothing beats experience as the perfect learning
tool. This on the job training served as my stepping stone
to pursue my dream. This training gave me an inspiration
to be more serious and focused in studying. I was
encouraged to do more effort in my studies.
Despite the short period of my training enriched my
confidence created a foundation of being employee
someday. The training made me realize that is really
good to know that you’re doing and to love it. As a
student what I can do for now is to learn whatever I can
in school. Be inspired love the path I am taking, and do
my best in everything I do. With positive outlook in mind.
