“2 Days Seminar for MAPEH Teachers in Standard First Aid”

I .Rationale

The training program on Standard First Aid (SFA) is unique among the DOH-HEMS courses
in that it focuses on building the emergency response capabilities of non-health professionals. It
aims to provide laypersons the knowledge, skills, attitudes that will enable them provide
efficacious first aid interventions during emergencies and disasters. effectual delivery of first aid
is a significant factor of successfully avoiding the onset complications for those injured during
emergencies, thus preventing unnecessary morbidity and mortality. Having people in the
community who are capable of administering first aid is thus a crucial building block of an
effective community response to emergencies.

The participants’s workbook was designed to facilitate the learning and understanding of the
topics presented in the sessions. The workbook has “fill-in” information for the participants to
answer while the lecture-discussion is on going. This will serve as a trainee’s notes and reviewer.

II. Objectives

On completion of this training participants will be able to:

1. The teachers should be able to know the basic information on provision of first aid for
various accident
2. The teachers should be able to apply the basic skills in first aid by having a simulation

 Patient Approach & Examination (Scene Safety)
 Brief Introduction to Wounds and Bleeding
 Head injuries
 Dressing and Bandages
 Shock- Fainting
 Unconsciousness
 Recovery Position
 Burns and Scalds
 Fractures, Sprains, Strains and Dislocations

B. Themes
Learners are asked to consider what they already know about First Aid, and to identify
any gaps in knowledge. An introduction to the 7 topic of well- being, including
appendices, glossary of terms, word and audio files can be found in the Health and
well- being zip file.

IV. Timetable and Resources

All successful candidates will be issued with a certificate of attendance by the DOH
Training. Certification will valid for 2 years from date issue, thereafter subject to re certificate.
