TO: UGMS 8th grade band members and parents

RE: 8th grade visit to a UGHS football game

In anticipation of your child being a member of the Union Grove High School Band next year, we are offering
him/her an opportunity to experience what it is like to actually be in the band at UGHS! This will take place on
Friday, September 28th, 2018 in preparation for and at the Union Grove vs. Eagles Landing High School football
game. We are making arrangements to treat everyone to a high school band experience that evening. This
includes playing in the stands at the game. The students will work on the music in their respective band classes to
prepare for this event.

WHO:
This event is open to all current Union Grove Middle School 8 th grade band students. Families of the participating
8th grade students are welcome to join us at the stadium for the game; however, parents and other family
members will be required to pay normal admission price at the entry gate.

WHEN:

Friday, September 28th, 2018

Approximately 3:30 Mr. Morgan brings 8th Graders over to UGHS to rehearse with the
UGHS Marching Wolverines (Some time will be spent in class
rehearsing the music for the football game; however, this will be the only
chance for the UGMS Band to practice with the UGHS Marching Band.
Every participating students’ attendance at this rehearsal is vital and
expected.
5:15 P.M. Dinner for all band students-provided
6:30 P.M. Leave to move into the stands at the stadium
7:20 P.M. Star Spangled Banner
7:30 P.M. Kick-off
approx. 10:00 P.M. Game Over! (PLEASE be on time to pick up your student!)

Being prompt or early is crucial- we are a very “on time” organization!

HOW MUCH:
Admission to the game for the 8th grade band students is free. Middle school band students will walk in with the
UGHS Band. Normal admission prices must be paid by anyone else who wishes to attend. Pay at the either entry
gate to enter.

Eighth graders are encouraged to bring money for concessions. They will only be allowed to go to the concession
stand during the third quarter break when the UGHS Band is allowed to go. At all other times, they will be seated
inside the UGHS Band block in the stands just like they were already in the high school band. Parents and friends
are not allowed to sit in the band block.

You may wish to purchase a lyre for your child instrument to hold his/her music in the stands while the band
plays, but this is not required at this time. They can be purchased at any local music store. They can also be used
when your child joins the UGHS Band next year.

PARENTS, please do not bring your eighth grader food or drink while they are seated with the UGHS
Band. This creates a distraction, and we try to protect the very expensive uniforms and instruments by not
allowing food and drink around them. Thank you for your compliance with this request. All students will be
provided water during the game while in the stands.

WHAT TO WEAR:
All UGMS Band students should wear their Union Grove polo shirt, jeans and tennis shoes. This will help the
group look uniform and identify them as part of the UGHS Marching band. It would be wise to keep an eye on
the weather forecast as we approach the game in order to anticipate the need for bringing a jacket etc.

SUPERVISION:
Students will be under the supervision of Mr. Kramer-UGHS Band Director, the entourage of UGHS Band
parents and Mr. Morgan. The students will be watched until all are picked up at UGHS after the game at
approximately 10:00 P.M. PLEASE make arrangements to be on time to pick up your student at UGHS after the
game; it is a very long day and night for Mr. Kramer and Mr. Morgan.

BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS:
The members of both the UGHS and UGMS Bands are expected to exhibit exemplary behavior at all times.
Inappropriate behavior of any kind is unacceptable. The previous members of both groups have worked very hard
over the years to establish a tradition of excellence on the stage, on the field and regarding behavior and a positive
reputation.

DEADLINE:
Please sign and complete the attached permission form and return it to Mr. Morgan at UGMS or Mr. Kramer at
UGHS no later than Thursday, September 27th.
