Welcome to the English 3 Self-Learning Module (SLM) on Writing a Short Paragraph


providing another ending for a story!

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both
from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping

a story. The scope of this module permits it to be used in many

diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to

textbook you are now using.

Now, you read the story.

The Happy Farmer

Once there was a farmer. He planted corn and palay. He


planted fruits and vegetables. He worked hard every day. He
plowed, planted, and harvested, plowed, planted and harvested.
The farmer sang as he worked. He sang:
I may not rich and have no money,
But I am happy. Happy as jolly bee.”

He sang in a loud voice. His neighbors could hear him sing.


The farmer’s neighbor was a rich woman. She did not like his
singing. The rich woman said,” I will give you money. Promise me
you will not sing again.
The next two days, the farmer did not sing. He just plowed,
planted and harvested but he did not sing.
He had much money but he could not sing.
He was not happy. So, he took the money back to the rich
woman. He said,
“Here is your money. I don’t need it. I cannot sing. I cannot work
well. I am not happy.
The farmer went home. He plowed, planted and harvested and
sings.
I have no money.
But I am happy.

 Read a story about a girl named Pinky. Then, write a short
paragraph of your own ending different to that of the story.

There was once a girl named Pinky. Who used to frown and
pout her lips whenever she was angry. One day, Pinky had a
fight with her classmates. She shouted, then frowned and
pouted her lips at them. A fairy saw her and decided to punish
her.
One night, Pinky did not like the food prepared by her
Mother. She frowned and pouted her lips at her mother. But
just as soon as she did it, out leaped grasshoppers from her
mouth. She asked for forgiveness from her mother and
promised never to do it again. “Oh Pinky,” stopped being
stubborn,” said mother.

 Direction: Write a different ending of the following situation.

Situation:
The Family in Time of Crisis
Mother is wearing her facemask and prepared herself to
the market. She will buy food for the family and some
medicines. Children are not allowed to go with her as they
used to do before, because children are told to stay at home
during this community quarantine.
She bought some fish, meat, fruits and vegetables enough
for the whole week consumption. “Everyone should not waste
food. Everyone must stay at home and keep safe.” Mother
said.
“We will pray together for protection.” father said. The
family quietly prayed and ate their supper with a hope in their
hearts that everything will be fined with the help of God.
