Fick's Law Exercises and Fourier's Law Exercises

1.- Estimate the amount of heat per hour transmitted by conduction by a blanket covering a
person in a room at 0ºC. Consider that the surface area of the blanket in contact with the
body is 1 m², the thickness of the blanket, 1 cm, and its coefficient of thermal conductivity,
8 x 10-5 cal/cm °C s. (Note: Assume that the temperatures of the inner and outer sides of
the blanket are 33°C skin temperature and 0°C respectively.)

2.- A copper bar with an outer diameter of 2 cm has a steel core with a diameter of 1 cm
inside. The assembly has a length of 1 m. One end is in contact with boiling water while the
other end is in contact with melting ice. If the assembly is insulated from the outside. What
will be the total heat flow in the rod and the percentage carried by each substance? The
conductivity coefficients are: cu 0.92cal / cm.secºC and steel 0.12cal / cm.secºC .
3.- A carbon concentration of 500 atoms/cm³ is exposed to a 30 cm² sheet of iron with a
cubic structure centred on the faces, 1 mm thick to reach the other sector which has an
initial concentration of 5 atoms/cm³ under these conditions, calculate the flux of atoms
present in this phenomenon by interstitial diffusion.
