The cookie story

It was very hard for Sam to keep from screaming at the unfairness of it all. She has been
working at the newspaper for years. She wasn’t the best writer, but she certainly could have
been more social with the rest of the office staff. She tried her best to stay awake that night;
after what all had happened at her workspace. In the need of distracting herself from her
feelings, she tried to approach a story through her socials. Sending “Guys I need help with a
newspaper article for my work, I would appreciate ideas”, she soundly went to sleep.
 
           The next day she received a good number of messages from all her colleagues. One of
which amused her the most. It was from someone she had hardly ever had a conversation
with. With the starting phrase ‘I can bring you the one story of how a man saw a UFO’;
knowing that it was not real or of any use without any proof, she ignored the message. The
next day as she helplessly tried to write a good story for her newspaper article, she came
across a Facebook ad “if you are in search of a good news story CLICK HERE”. Finding it
weird, that when she needed something she most of the time found it through Facebook and
other social media apps. Even if it was 2011, the year wasn’t too bad for scams, she did
experience a shadow of emotions when going across the ad. As in the need of a story she
clicked it, while it took her to some other site she kept re-thinking her decision -” will I end
up with more cookies, my malware will get corrupt, I could end up losing all my data” she
thought. But, on the other hand, she knew this couldn’t get any worse than that. After going
through the article she found nothing useful but learned something even more important.
      
          Remembering how she mentioned that every time she wanted something useful and did
not find it on net browsers, rather through her social media apps on which she was very much
active. She thought “they always know it before I can even comprehend, can they read my
mind?” I think now Sam has found herself a story. Two weeks later she submitted her report
named - “The cookie story”, writing about her experiences. She wrote how in our everyday
life, social media affects us while taking the most important concept of the “cookie policy”.
