Physical Input Devices

Physical input devices are input devices that have a specific hardware structure. Keyboard

devices, such as regular keyboards, flexible keyboards, and portable keyboards, are two of the

most common types of physical input devices. Character input, such as letters, numerals, and

symbols, is provided through these. Mouse, track ball, light pen, and other pointing devices these

are used to define the computer screen's location (Grover, 1990).

Keyboard

There are many different characters on a standard keyboard. In order to communicate with the

programmer, we use the ASCII value of the key that was pushed by the programmer. Single

characters or an array of characters may be entered into the software.

Mouse and Trackball

In order to designate a location, pointing devices such as these are used. When using a mouse or

trackball, the location of the clicked button is sent to the application software. As far as function

and design go, these gadgets are quite identical. A pair of encoders within the gadget transform

the ball's movement into a signal that is relayed back to the computer. Movement in two

orthogonal directions is measured by these encoders (Grover, 1990).

Scanners

Everywhere you look, you'll find a scanner, from your phone's fingerprint scanner to the scanner

on your workplace desk, to the bar code scanner. Scanners create scanned images by illuminating

a certain pattern with a beam of light. Data from real-world sources, such as photographs or

papers, is fed into scanners, which then translate the data into machine language. To produce

digital copies of the input data, we employ a more complex version.

Microphones

Microphones come in a wide variety of styles and designs. As an example, a condenser

microphone, a carbon granule microphone, a ribbon microphone, etc. Each of them has their own

set of guiding principles for doing their jobs. Microphones often use electrical energy to transfer

vibrational energy. This electrical energy is used to power a computer, which then sends the

results of its work to an output device.

Cameras

Digital cameras can take pictures and films, which can then be transferred to a computer and

kept there for a long time. It's simple to decipher a photograph taken in the real world. There are

two ways to send an image to a computer: either in binary or in machine language. As a result, a

camera is an input tool.

Real Life Scenario

The keyboard is the most important input device in most real-world situations. One of the most

common and widely used input devices for entering data into a computer is a keyboard. Almost

every device now includes a keyboard for entering data or instructions. When writing a

document, we rely heavily on our keyboards, but the mouse isn't quite as important as the

keyboard in this case. This situation does not need the use of a mouse as an entry button. In order

to save the document, we need to utilize the mouse. Input devices, then, serve a variety of

purposes, making them both essential and valuable.
