Lost Lumière

 “What if the moon and the sun fell in love with each other?” I asked not knowing who
I was talking to. Then I heard someone answer, “Of course that’s impossible, miss. They
don’t even have hearts and feelings so how will love exist between them?” I just smiled and
said, “Try to read and listen at the same time”. I had the guts to say that because I knew how
love can exist in the most unexpected places.

In a timeless space in the universe, there lived a very optimistic lady named Solis. All
heavenly bodies loved everything about her. From her curly blazing hair and fingers up to her
blinding smile, everything was just so mesmerizing. She gave light during the day but comes
at night, Lunox substituted her. Lunox was the complete opposite of Solis. He gave light but
you can never see the light within him for he was very pessimistic and dry in emotions or
maybe, he didn’t really have emotions. Despite of his behavior, Solis still treated him like
someone very special in her life. Maybe that was because she appreciated how Lunox helped
her in shedding light on earth. All of the heavenly bodies except for Solis thought that Lunox
was just a stone-cold creature who did not care about his feelings, goals, but just about his
mere existence.

However, in reality, Lunox was not like that. Little did they know, he just used the
attitude they knew for him to hide his feelings for Solis. In space, no one is allowed to be in
love because there would be a massive collision. There was an unwritten law that says, “All
heavenly bodies must remain he as he and she as she not he and she for them”. Lunox tried to
hide his feelings for Solis until one day, he decided to confess to her. He faced to Solis’
direction and shouted, “Solis, my love from afar! The light of my life! Seldom do we talk but
frequent do I look at thy! You are the most pulchritudinous star and the core of my heart! I
know what I feel for you cannot grow into something more and I know that what I say in this
very moment cannot be undone. I am also aware that you have no plans of returning my
feelings but please, just please listen to me. Listen to my heart that has been beating for you
for billions and billions of years. Look into my eyes and see how they spell your name. Listen
to my words and feel how dedicated and true I am to you. Solis, all of the stars and planets
around us cannot be used to measure my love for you. Not even the combination of our lights
can show how blinding my love for you is. Solis, this may be the last time I’ll talk to you but
remember, I love you and I always will”. Solis was astonished with what Lunox said. She
never expected that a man like Lunox would appreciate her whole being. Lunox left her and
Solis, in deep shock, was not able to stop him from leaving.

For days, earth survived with no light during the night. Solis also can’t help but think
of Lunox’s last words. She started worrying about him so she tried to talk to her planet guards
if she could go out for a while to look for Lunox. At first, the planets did not allow her
because the earth might lose their last light. However, when they looked into Solis’ eyes, they
realized something so they opened the gates and allowed her to go out, making Earth totally
lose light.
 Solis wandered in the whole space but she found no signs of Lunox. She even asked
the stars if they saw Lunox but they won’t align to answer her. She went from one galaxy to
another but she just found herself roaming around the place for the sixth time. She saw a
black hole and she can’t help but think if Lunox entered there. She walked towards it but
when she was only about to take one step, she thought, “Why am I doing these things? Why
did I exert so much effort just to find Lunox?” That was the time when she realized she had
feelings for Lunox too. She was more than willing to enter the black hole even without
assurance of Lunox’s presence there.

When she was about to enter, something with extreme heat pulled her away from the
black hole, causing her a wound. When she looked back to see who was it, she found her love
of her life, she found her escape, she found the man of her dreams standing right in front of
her with teary eyes and worried face — She found Lunox. With utmost fret, he asked Solis,
“What do you think you’re doing? Are you out of your mind? Are you going to commit
suicide?” Solis became vulnerable and tears started to fall down her eyes. She needed
strength and love so she hugged Lunox. However, Lunox saw the wounds starting to form on
their bodies so he pushed Solis away. So Solis started to blurt out her feelings, “Lunox, I’m
sorry but I no longer know what I’m doing! I don’t know why I left my habitat to look for
you, I don’t know why I asked the stars if they saw you pass by, I don’t know why I roamed
around from galaxy to galaxy just to see you, and I don’t know why I was so willing to enter
that black hole to look for you when in the first place, I don’t even know if you were really in
there! I no longer know why but one thing is for sure, Lunox. I love you. I always have but I
was just so in denial about it. Your cold appearance made me think that we have no chance
but when you told me about your feelings for me, my flames combusted. When you left, I
never knew how to shed light without the light of my life – you”.

Lunox was shocked about what he heard and said, “Solis, you don’t have to do this
just because you don’t want to reject me. It’s fine if you can’t love me the way I love you but
you don’t have to lie just to reciprocate my feelings for you”. Solis did not hesitate to hug
Lunox once more to show that she was not lying. This time, Lunox did not push her away.
It’s just that Solis started to be weak because of the wounds their union caused. She
unintentionally dropped her arms off so Lunox became worried and said, “It seems like we
can never be together, Solis. The more I see you, the more my feelings for you grow. The
more it grows, the more I want to caress you. The more you smile at me, the more I want to
touch your lips with mine. But mi amore, the more I touch you, the more I hurt you. I’m a
harm to everything I touch and I cause distress to everyone who dare to care about me. I’m
sorry Solis, but I need to stay away from you even if dying is the only option”. Lunox walked
towards the black hole and Solis tried to stop him. Howbeit, Lunox still entered the black
hole. Solis lost the love of her life before her very eyes. She got weaker and weaker by just
thinking she lost Lunox, her strength so she thought, “My love if I will live without you, I
might as well die”. Without hesitation, Solis entered the black hole hoping to find and be with
Lunox. As a result, the universe lost light. Everything went pitch black.
 I swallowed and took a deep breath. I closed the book I was holding and said, “What I
see is black but that doesn’t mean emptiness or loneliness. I believe somewhere in the past,
my eyes had a moon and a sun of their own. Maybe, just maybe, they also sacrificed for love.

I cleared my throat and said, “Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t see nothing. Because
nothing is just the veiled something and by the fact that I know what is nothing, I know
something”. The crowd applaud and with their cheering, I realized that my own sun and
moon loved each other so much and my eyesight was the living evidence of their affection.
However, these people clapping and cheering for me were my stars. They enlighten me to
write and they inspire me to inspire other people. They gave me the spotlight not every
normal person who could see can have. The emcee assisted me to stand upright and said,
“Ladies and gentlemen, once again, Ms. Nikazer Salalila! You can have your books signed
after a 5-minute break”.

I snapped out of my consciousness and told the emcee I needed to say something. I
held the microphone and confidently said, “I just want everyone to know that this book is
dedicated to my moon. Fiel, the light of my life, I don’t know what you’re doing at this
moment for I can’t even describe the place from where I stand but one thing’s for sure. You
are and will always be in my heart. To everyone who exerted effort in going here, thank you
very much. Once again, good afternoon”.

Someone held my hand and escorted me down the stairs and towards the room where
I am intended to stay. Suddenly, a man’s voice whispered to me and said, “You might not see
me but darling, I will light and guide you”. A familiar voice echoed through my whole being.
I recognized a familiar scent and in a minute, a person hugged me and said, “I never left you.
I will never leave you even if you no longer see me, Nika”. When he called me by my
nickname, chills went down my spine. I cupped his face and said, “Fiel?” I felt tears falling
down his eyes when he said, “Yes, Nika. It’s me. It has always been me and it has always
been you. The one who owns my heart. So, you were asking a while ago about what if the
moon and the sun fell in love with each other, right?” I nodded and he said, “Then they would
wish to end up the way we did- strong, invincible, and unstoppable”. I searched for his hands,
held them, and said, “The stars of the moon and sun aligned again. This time, they will never
disperse”.
