QUARTER 1-WEEK 6-7: FITNESS THROUGH BALLROOM DANCING

POINTS TO PONDER
1. Ballroom dancing promotes self-confidence and self-discipline, while also enhancing the balance
between our mental and physical health and providing a sense of well-being. It can also reduce
chance of heart disease, enhance cardiovascular health, strengthen weight-bearing bones, help
prevent or slow bone loss associated with osteoporosis, lower the risk of obesity and Type 2 Diabetes,
and build greater respiratory system.
2. Ballroom dancing, for instance, keeps our hearts, lungs, and cardiovascular system healthy and
improves our physical performance. Since it is an aerobic activity, it burns calories and can increase
your metabolism. It can also cause an increase in our heart rate and breathing.
3. Ballroom dancing improves your mood by increasing adrenalin, or feel-good hormones. This gives you
a broad sense of well-being. Just a little dancing can lift your spirits. It can lower cholesterol and
blood pressure, improve aerobic fitness, strengthen weight-bearing bones, help prevent or slow bone
loss associated with osteoporosis, and promote increased pressure in the lungs. It's also a great
activity that sharpens the mind, increases aerobic power and strength, fosters social bonds, and can
lessen distress and fatigue.

“INTERNET RESEARCH/VIDEO SEARCH”

1. Some steps in Ballroom Dancing are completely familiar to me, such as the cha-cha, since it is the
basic step. The steps are quite redundant, and the dance is usually performed in a closed position.
Learning the steps to a ballroom dance can widen our dancing perspectives or simply make us a
more knowledgeable viewer of dance-related media content.
2. Ballroom dancing incorporates a wide range of music, and dancers express musical characteristics
through their movements. It moves at a slow and elegant pace, with the two partners gliding
throughout the room in sync with the dance music.
3. In the videos I've watched, I've noticed that partners must stand apart, facing each other. The male
partner grasps the hands of the female partner, while the female partner places her hands in the
male partner's grasp. Both partners' feet are at a 45-degree angle to the direction of movement,
exactly 90 degrees complete reverse to each other. Partners must also stand apart and face each
other. Both hands are held in the two-hand hold position.
4. In ballroom dancing, both feet point in the same direction but at right angles to the direction of the
partner's feet. Dancers step back with your right foot, place your feet hip distance apart, and step
back with your right foot, moving your body in the direction of your right foot. In Latin/rhythm
dances, they slide the balls of our feet along the floor, with their toes turned outwards. They roll from
heel to toe or vice versa with parallel feet in smooth/standard dances. Most syllabuses refer to this
type of movement as footwork. Both partners have their feet turned at a 45 degree angle to the
direction of movement, exactly 90 degrees opposite to one another.
5. The Waltz is an excellent Ballroom dance for beginning dancers, and it is a lovely style for a wedding
first dance. It is distinguished by an elegant "rise and fall," turns, and gorgeous body tilts. Cha Cha,
on the other hand, is a non-progressive dance that highlights Cuban movements, as evidenced by the
chasses that are typically danced during the 4&1 counts of the music. Lastly, the rumba is known
primarily for the dancers' delicate side to side hip thrusting with the torso taut. It is danced with a
basic pattern of two simple quick steps and a gradual forward walk.

REFLECT
I have learned that ballroom dancing is well-known for its alluring movements and attractive styles.
Even those who dislike dancing will enjoy watching the performers make their mark on the dance floor.
This style of dancing is gaining popularity on western dance floors. More and more people are attempting to
learn the fundamentals of this dance. Furthermore, I discovered that the most significant difference in style
is between modern or standard dances and Latin dances.
I will use what I have learned about the importance of practicing and performing ballroom dancing
to lower blood pressure and cholesterol, improve cardiovascular health, strengthen weight-bearing bones,
help prevent or slow bone loss caused by osteoporosis, and build greater lung capacity. Dancing burns
calories, strengthens muscles, improves balance, increases flexibility, and provides a good workout for the
heart. It has also been shown to help with intellectual growth.
