MODULE 1

Give at least 3 descriptions that will describe the contexts of the following:
      a. 21st Century Schools

Children will learn practical programming skills and can practice their skills
through physical computing.

It's an education that sets children up to succeed in a world where more than half
of the jobs they'll have over their careers don't even exist yet.

It's an education that provides students with the skills and competencies they
need to thrive in the 21st century.

      b. 21st Century Curriculum

Twenty-first century curriculum is: “interdisciplinary, project-based, and research-

driven. The curriculum incorporates higher order thinking skills, multiple
intelligences, technology and multimedia, the multiple literacies of the 21st
century, and authentic assessments. Service learning is an important
component”.

The curriculum is not textbook-driven or fragmented, but is thematic, project-

based and integrated.

It means a new way of understanding the concept of “knowledge”, a new

definition of the “educated person”.

      c. 21st Century Learning Environment

Classrooms with 21st Century learning environments are well‐equipped with

computer hardware, software, electronic whiteboards and rich digital and online
curricular resources.

When you enter a 21st Century learning environment, you quickly see that
interactive learning, higher level thinking skills, and student engagement are
pervasive, whether students are learning math, science, reading, or history.
21st Century learning environments provide opportunities for collaboration and
access to relevant content that would not usually be available to the highest
need students being served by these programs.

d. Technology in the 21st Century Pedagogy

Technology provides teachers and students with access to a variety of

educational resources that inspire creativity, critical thinking, communication, and
collaboration.

It promotes inclusion and the development of digital literacy skills.

It extends learning beyond the text – and beyond the classroom walls

e. 21st Century Learners

The 21st century learners need to understand how to command the digital and
informational world.

Students who are participatory learners who use information technology to

accomplish specific tasks such as the use of e-learning and learning management
systems.

A 21st century learner is focused on authenticity in the learning environment

and is adept at incorporating a variety of skills including critical thinking, problem
solving and collaborative work.

f. 21st Century Skills Outcome and the Demands in the Job

Workplace reskilling and upskilling has traditionally focused on

getting better at specific job tasks and meeting performance
standards.
This made more sense when jobs and roles were clearly defined.
However, this focus on outcome-based learning rather than skills-
based learning that in turn creates new competencies has missed the
mark.
This has resulted in a sizeable part of the workforce, an entire
generation, becoming overspecialized and ill-equipped to meet new
labor demands.
