GRAMMAR EXPLANATION & PRACTICE


Simple Present tense with verb 'to be' presente simple verbo ser / estar
Here's the positive form (positive means a normal sentence, not a negative or
a question). Forma positiva

Positive Positive Short Form


I am I'm yo
you are you're tu / vos / ustedes
he is he's él
she is she's ella
it is it's eso (una cosa)
we are we're nosotros
they are they're ellos

Examples:
She´s a doctor. Ella es doctora
He´s in the lab. El está en el lab
Can you close the window? I´m cold Podes cerrar la ventana? tengo frío
It´s a very nice day today es un dia hermoso hoy
We are interns at the hospital somos pasantes en el hospital

Here's the Negative.. You only add 'not'. Forma negativa, se le agrega 'not'

Negative Negative short form


I am not I'm not
you are not you aren't
he is not he isn't
she is not she isn't
it is not it isn't
we are not we aren't
they are not they aren't

Examples:
I´m not a nurse, no soy enfermera/o
We are not interested in medicine no nos interesa la medicina
The physician isn´t in the E.R now El medico no esta en la sala de emergencia ahora
I´m not hungry, I´m thirsty. No estoy hambrienta/o, estoy sedienta/o

And finally let's talk about the Question form . Forma interrogativa

am I ?
are you ?
Is he ?
Is she ?
Is it ?
are we ?
are they ?

Examples:
This patient had a surgery, am I right? el paciente tuvo una cirugía, estoy en lo cierto?
Are you a blood donor? Sos donante de sangre?
Is dr. Brown a good physician? Es el doctor Brown un buen medico?
Are the ingredients in this medicine good for kids under 12? Son los ingredientes de este
medicamento aptos para niños menores de 12?
Are you pregnant? Esta usted embarazada? o estas embarazada?

If you'd like to make a 'Wh' Question you just put the question word at the
front:
preguntas con palabras interrogativas, la palabra interrogativa. siempre va al
comienzo

Where am I ? ¿dònde?


What are you ? ¿què? ¿cuàl?
Why is he ? ¿por què?
Who is she ? ¿quièn?
When are we ? ¿cuàndo?
How are they ? ¿còmo?

How old? ¿cuàntos años? How much? ¿ cuànto? How many? ¿ cuàntos?

Examples:
Where is the X Ray department? ¿dónde esta el área de RX?
Why is he taking a blood sample? ¿por qué esta tomando una muestra de sangre?
Who is the doctor in charge? ¿quién es el doctor a cargo?
When is your next appointment with the doctor? ¿cuándo es tu próximo turno con el
doctor?
How is the patient feeling today? ¿cómo se siente el paciente hoy?
How old are you? ¿cuantos años tenes?
How often are you having this pain? ¿con que frecuencia tienes este dolor?

Cuando busquemos una palabra en el diccionario nos aparecerá que tipo de


palabra es, si es verbo dirá (v) y aparecerá la conjugación: si es sustantivo
tendrá la n (la n es la traducción de sustantivo: noun en ingles) y figuraran las
traducciones principales: si es adjetivo dirá adj etc. Por lo tanto antes de
empezar a traducir es necesario saber qué tipo de palabra es.
